Clutch time...

Spoke to Pete at PNM about front seal and his advice was if it aint broke dont fix it as they can be difficult to seal again, but of course if you can see it's leaking then it will need changing

Good point about align tool, when buying clutch kits from Renault they put a plastic tool in the box so try a Renault specialist as they should have loads lying around!

Timing pulley just undo the nut and use some gentle persuasion ;)

Cheers

I think I have a slight oil leak from somewhere up front, I thought it was the front cover plate and nipped up all the bolts slightly (I know they are v.low torque settings!) which helped but I intend to cure all the leaks this time.

I have a new gasket for the front cover and a new front seal to fit. I suspect the water pump might be leaking again too...

Sadly I really really can't get the engine out as I've absolutely nowhere to put it that is either dry or secure enough.

So am I but I'm willing to take the risk. Got it via a contact for a lot less than advertised.

My labour is free... but it is a risk agreed.

My contact has asked I don't, done as a favour. Assuming it works out OK I'll ask.

I hope to get the box off at the weekend, it's pretty dirty and oily down there as the box has been leaking from both seals for a long time by the look of it.

But at least that means all the bolts are rust free!

Questions:

My exhaust has been rubbing at the tail pipe end, is there any adjustment? I didn't see anywhere to adjust it's position.

It seems to have been hanging off the cat a bit more than I'd like - possible evidence of a rear shunt at some point perhaps?

Also:

At the rear of the boot is asome very rusty steelwork, under the back of the car above the silencer there seems to be a corresponding strip - can I just undo (Cut off) the bolts and remove this so I can tidy it up (Tufted knot brsh!) and paint it?

OK box is off and clutch is out, rear main seal is out and spigot bearing is out. Spares all ordered along with a load of stainless bolts, nuts, washers and flat bar to repalce the bumper strip with and new BZP for the rear cover.

I also have a tin of duralac on the way for all the bolts into the ali castings.

I've changed the remaining gearbox output seal and cleaned up the majority of the greasy mess (But it's hard going!)

Is there anything else I can do while I'm in here?

Also is there any adjust in the exhaust position? It has been rubbing th efiberglass just behind the boot floor.

A technique which seemed to work for us is to slacken everything off and then position the exhause pipes where you want them first, then tighten everything up 'backwards', ie working from the tailpipe(s) back towards the engine, constantly checking that the tailpipe(s) haven't moved from your desired position.

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice.<br />

In practice, there is!

Good time to do the chargecooler impellor and also check the coils and backing plate as well as the rusted holder for the vapour canister well I think that's what it is.as for exhaust there must be some way of changing how it hangs, check the mounts on the cradle
