Top Ball joint

Got a bit of a prob!!

Trying to remove the top ball joint. I have removed the nut on the ball joint thread and the two top bolts, but the ball joint won't budge! Is it a case of bashing it upwards and out? or am I missing something.

Best to use a ball joint separator, you can get them from any parts shop.

It goes between the main body of the ball-joint and the upper part of the upright and is like a wedge with a slot in the middle. You drive it in with a BIG hammer and it forces the two apart.

Not the one linked Andy, that one has a 'nose' you place on the ball joint and a bolt to tighten to force the ball joint out.

Oh. there was a link. DOH.

I've just be clearing more of the garage, including putting away tools, I moved one of each as pictured by Bibs, plus a smaller non-pivoting one of the bolt type and a kit of three heads and three shafts (interchangeable) of the later type. I seem to have most eventualities covered there.

There is currently some floor visible, but the trailer in the middle of the floor half-filled with tools parts etc is in place of the S3.

Replaced both of mine last month (not through wear but the rubber protective cover had split)

Used a ball joint seperator as per the first of Bibs photos. Seems less agricultural than a hammer one!!

Cheap enough to buy anywhere.

Suggested torque to tighten up is 40lbs/ft by the way.At least it is on the V8 and cant believe yours is any different.
