Stalling by definition would increase drag, it appears to me that it's increasing it's negative angle of attack and negative lift with it.

Indeed it would increase the drag of the front wing. But the drag from the underfloor is likely to be greater so, maybe, it cold reduce this by more than the front wing drag increases.

Putting aside all the fluid dynamics high falutin' gobbledygook for a moment, and getting back to "basics 101," is it naive to intuitively assume that simply turning a 1 X 12 curved "board" ninety degrees from [almost] "flat" to "edge on" (with relation to the very windy line of travel) is just naturally going to produce less air resistance? The only real question is whether or not to retain a small percentage of downforce or aim for neutral lift.

In any case, the restrictions on use of the movable wing (DRS) include the "one second" rule. That is, you cannot employ the device unless your are within one second's time of the gent in front of you. The system apparently will not "arm" unless your meet this condition. To which I reply: "How do it know, guvnor?"

Being second is to be the first of the ones who lose.

The cars are fitted with radio transponders that are interogated at various points around the circuit. They say they are accurate to better than 10usecs.

Principle ones are used for the finish line and for the sector points. The timing computer can then provide a signal for the telemetry that enables the DRS.

(I think that's what was said - I was half-listening at the time...)

Anyhow it still looks to me that neither the wing nor the nose is bending but that the wing mount is allowing rotation.

And I still stand by my post that if the angle of attack increases so does lift (read downforce as the wing is upside down). The wing rotating backwards increases the angle of attack of the leading edge of the wing.

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.
