alloy water pipe

well i was replacing a few pipes and rusty clips this evening when i bgan to undo the small rubber pipe that goes onto the top of the alloy water pipe it came away. i took the whole pipe off and i think i will get a stainless one made looking at the small pipe the alloy is very thin in places.

well i took the alloy water pipe to the stainless guys so they can make me one and i was supprised to see the state of a ferrari exhaust that they were going to make a new one off, apparently most ferrari and rolls royce owners dont like to spend money. pics below

Same thing happened to me with mine, but the simple solution was that I cut the old small pipe off flush, built up a small area of alloy weld then I tapped a thread into this on the pipe and fitted a 90 degree tail piece to then fit the small pipe back onto. No point wastin a perfectly good pipe otherwise or spending out unneeded I thought!

Mine is not that bad sit failed haf way down the small pipe so there was enough material left to put he pipe on. It's only a matter of time though. Let us know how the stainless pipe goes and what the cost is.

well the cost is £60 and i will be collecting it in two weeks

A good alloy pipe should last for a hell of a long time. I remember polishing the fork legs of my Ducati SD900 (I miss that bike) and being told by our local MC mechanic that you probably could not do that with a Japanese set of fork legs back then due to quality.

It is possible that the alloy quality is not that good or the water hardness is not compatible with the alloy. Or both.

well i picked up th stainless pipe today, very happy with it and should be on thr car later tonight. the pic is a bit poor though

well pipe is on and its a great fit, just need to replace the rubber pipe (as i have been replacing pipes and clips and doing a bit of tidying up in the bay before i replace the heat hsields and put the boot floor back in.
