steaming?

I seem to have a slight issue, the engine on my gt3 is steaming from somewhere between the charge cooler and expansion tank I cannot really tell where it is coming from. Obviously I have a coolent loss as well but its very slow. Any body got any ideas?

Do you mean its comming from the general area between the two. If so you should be able to roughly see the hose (I asume) its comming from...or are there billows of steam blocking your view..where all the coolant hoses go from the chargecooler under the plenum also meets with the turbo coolant hose..in that area..so you need to delve deeper and look harder. ..

Its coming up from this area pictured I have had a poke around with a torch and just can't see where it is coming from its a constant gentle waft of steam. I tried to video it to show you guys but it didn't show in the video.steam_zps2046f990.png

Sure it's not just a soaked pipe drying out as hot water goes through it?

it could be something getting soaked that's drying out I have a slow and steady coolant loss so its going somewhere maybe dripping on something that's getting hot then steaming I really have no clue

Check the t piece its a couple of inches below the coolant tank as these can fail

thanks ill go and have a look in the morning

Could be the brass union that goes onto the turbo leaking? Or the hose has a pinhole. .that would mean its evaporating coolant on the turbo ..just a guess. There's also a t-piece of coolant hoses in this area that can leak. If it were me I would take each coolant hose off clean the fittings and fit with new clips. Then see what happens..

  • 2 weeks later...

ok I have taken the header tank out and changed all the old rusty clips, fitted a couple of new hoses that were looking a little tired and replaced the plastic tee piece under the header tank. Its now worse than it was before   I have a video of it steaming away and there seems to be water collecting under the intake manifold ill pop the video up soon

Found it :D its a little hose that connects a metal tee piece to the head, it has a little hole in it that is facing back at the engine spraying out a gentle squirt of water like a water pistol. Its not steaming itself but all the stuff that's getting wet is as the engine warms up.
