Going to be very nice Jon. :respect:

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

Opinions are like armpits. Everyone has them, some just stink more than others.

I fitted the wiper box as Paul described, using a 9 mm spacer made of plastic from S and J. Seems to have worked but untested as yet. Planning on electrical test next few weeks.i have a bracket on top.

Cheers Jon,

That's explains alot .. Have you fitted the fuel tank breather system on the car?

This is also a mystery from my end :/

Hi Vin - yes, I used Fabians posting as a reference, but you seem to have found that one.

Looks great! Thanks for posting the pictures still need to do my screens, but this had spurred me on. Does that glass sit at the same height as the surround or slightly lower to allow for the trims. Are the edges of the glass, top and sides spaced evenly? How many tubes of Dinitrol did you use. Thanks.

The wiper box, did you get a new one? If so where from and what part number?

Loving that colour, so 70's.

My wiper wheel box (B076M0309F) carried a Lucas part number on it of 72933, which is also known as AAU6865 and is common to the Triumph TR7/8.  Replacements are available on eBay.

Used almost all of a tube of Dinitrol 500 for each screen (2 tubes total) with the applicator tip in the Dinitrol kit. The glass sits on 4mm thick spacers all round and is lower than the surrounding bodywork.  Even spacing top and sides.  Haven't fitted the chrome trims yet ..

I noticed your number plate Jon. I just bought a pair of plates for mine from Tippers. They're period correct so raised plastic letters on an aluminium back. They look good but weren't cheap... £50 a set and whilst I was at it I bought Jennifer a set for her Mini.

  • 2 weeks later...

This weekend I was mostly doing .. the interior.

Replacing the old and non-existent carpet underlay I decided to use double sided self adhesive carpet tape to hold the underlay to the floor and again to hold the carpet onto the underlay.  Reasoning is that if it ever got wet or worn out I wanted a way of removing it easily. Time will tell how successful this will be. Glueing the carpet down is a one way activity - if you try and pull it up again, the carpet is ruined.

I bought a close match brown automotive carpet, cut it to pattern of the original pieces and paid a local coach trimmer to stitch on the edging for me. On the centre tunnel I used double sided pieces of 1/4" upholstery foam to attach the carpet.

Dashboard and instrument cluster going in.

Centre console dry fitted for now. All the new interior 'chrome' needs the clips riveting in place first.

Finished the day with the final bits of badge work on the tailgate.

Hi Jon,

Did you get the carpet and binding from coverdale?

I need to do the same thing on my esprit.  How many meters did it take to complete?

Hi Vin,

Yes, both came from Coverdale. I used 5m of carpet and 15m of edging and had a little of each left over. I had them send me a sample which I could see before ordering the whole lot. There was a small section of the original carpet underneath the wiper motor mounting plate I used as a reference.

Love the interior/exterior colour combination on this car. Carpet looks fantastic.

Coverdale do a 'carpet set' for the Esprit, website doesn't say what it consists of though.

Thanks Jon.. Did you go for the Autumn Leaf colour from the Blenheim range?  I think its about £21 a meter

Yes Vin - thats the one. I see that they also offer complete car sets for the Esprit for £177 - thats less than it cost me with the edging and labour, but I have no idea whether their sets will fit the S1/2.

John you are doing an incredibly professional job on this car, is it your first restoration?

Hey Mark - thanks. Yes, first full restoration for me. The S1 is such a simple car I think it lends itself well to amateur restoration when there are enough specialists around who are both helpful and carry a good stock of replacement and remanufactured parts.  Information and support from this forum and its members is absolutely invaluable.
