Another VX220 owner moving over

:welcome:  :welcome:

Well, after 3 months of trailing these forums gathering information I have decided to follow other esteemed ex Vx220 members into Evora ownership

I had been following with interest the discussions surrounding the IPS version, and ahead of my test drive last week I had convinced myself that the IPS version was the way to go, since i like to be lazy in traffic (yeah I know, getting old :smoke: ) However, after driving an IPS S I was left a little underwhelmed by the driving experience on the nice open back roads. Perhaps I needed to get more used to it, and in fairness Matthew at Lotus Silverstone did allow me quite a lengthy test drive, but even in sport mode I found I could never be sure which gear I was in without glancing at the dash.

I am not knocking the IPS, in time it may well be the right car for me since it does present certain advantages, but in the end I decided to stick with a manual.

Martin (LazyDonkey) and Lee's (CocoPops) reports on their ownership experience since jumping ship made for very interesting reading and whilst everyone raves about the ride quality of the Evora I was still surprised how good it was. It has to be experienced to be believed!

The next decision point was NA vs Supercharged. NA running costs vs the extra bit of oomph. I have never heard anyone with an NA complain about performance levels and Lotus Silverstone have a very nicely kept low mileage white one in stock. However, since my VX was supercharged back in 2005 I have got used to that level of performance so I decided to ignore the extra running costs of RFL, fuel and tyres and decided to go for the "S" version (hope I don't live to regret it  )

So, in the end, the F Type and Cayman/Boxter alternatives were discounted and a deposit placed on a nice blue Essex Esprit version (but without those decals)

Anybody wanting a supercharged VX220 in outstanding condition??????

Thanks for the welcomes guys!

@Bibs - yes I read the long term test, along with just about everything ever posted about the car on the internet. My head is sore after the last 3 months so pleased to get the deal done

@Gothmog - well I thought they were pretty awful, looks as though the other 2 owners are in agreement

Don't know when i'll pick the car up yet, depends on the progress of the VX sale. They are happy to hold it for a few weeks, trouble is patience was never one of my virtues so now i've scratched the itch and done the deal a six week wait will seem like 6 months

Depends on whether I still have the VX by then. If I do it will be the VX on the Frolic

Looking forward to a few laps in your Exige S. I test drove one and it was very tempting but in the end I decided it was too close to the VX to justify changing to one. The creature comforts of the Evora won the day

Welcome to TLF Paul. :welcome:

Congrats and let's see some photos.

Duck over and say hi in the Introductions thread as well. :)

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

Opinions are like armpits. Everyone has them, some just stink more than others.

Thank you for all the welcomes

I advertised my VX on Sunday afternoon and it sold 24 hours later, never expected that!!!

So, rather than the expected few weeks wait I will now be picking up the Evora on Tuesday next week. Will get some pics up after I've had the initial play in it

The trick will be taking the time to take the photos.  Most of us went out after taking ownership to take aforementioned pics and then just kept driving... :)

Really happy with it so far

A few pictures. The colour looks much better in the sun so, when it decides to shine again, i'll take some more

IMO the combination of Essex Blue and red interior works really well
