Thought it was a Delorean at first with the covers on the rear panels.

Cheers Steve.  Well spotted.  It does look like Syd Mead may have had a hand in the design of this film alright.  Must check on IMDB.

The vertical stripe almost gives it an American muscle car feel.......almost.

I likes them wheels too Barry.

First trailer has just dropped.

Looks like Loti are very popular in the future.  Excel at 1.40

All rather odd.

I guess the producers are hoping very few people identify the origins of the cars. This wont work for the Esprit. At least not in the UK.

The Excel likely wont be recognised much outside the UK. It was not sold in the US at all I believe.

It does say something when the filmguys are getting a 40 year old British design to play the role of a Japanese car in the future.

I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them.

Oh no! Better get mine before this comes out.:D

If it's a hit even the body shells will go up with people building replicas of the car.

But then again it has a 50/50 chance of flopping. It's already quite unpopular with fans of the anime and since it's made for the mainstream chances are the story will be watered down. The visuals seem to match quite well though. But the whole thing has a been there done that feeling all over it. Mainly because the anime already ripped off Blade Runner a lot and then The Matrix ripped off what was left of original in the anime way back in 1999.

Since public opinion is playing a stronger and stronger role in movie box offices these days, see the Ghostbusters remake, it won't take much for it to flop with all the white washing cries and the certain to happen watering down of the story.

Saw this trailer at the cinema tonight... Looks like an excel bit the dust at 1:25... Still at least it was worth of still being considered as a futuristic car!

For many kids growing up now I imagine if this is a decent film then they'll end up lusting after the esprit as much as I did after its James Bond outings, or a delorean after seeing back to the future. Then again, there's so much exposure to cool cars and vehicles in general these days, is it going to have the same effect as it did on a bunch of 70s/80s/90s kids?

No i do not think so Steve,  look at the last Knight rider film, I am a car guy and will watch pretty much anything with cars involved in it, but it was pants and the car had no presence about it,  However some films work such as gone in 60 seconds,  after that everybody wanted a classic mustang fastback.

Think the most recent film i have seen that made me want a particular car was the classic yellow muscle car out of the first transformers film, bumble bee :)

I think maybe the fellow that built that ghost in shell esprit wanted to give the same effect as the delorean did in back to the future, but obviously the delorean had a key part in the film, where as the esprit doe snot in this film.  :)

Agree with Dan, for me the Mexico in Fast and Furious 6 really made me want one!

Steve, both those did it for me as well, the delorean will grace my garage one day and already done the S1 thing several times.

Dave :)

Plenty of love for the Mexico,  true british classic and the cars are worth a few bob or two today also,  I remember been offered a smart looking mk2 escort years ago that had been owned by a chap from new, it was orange and had failed the mot on a little bit of welding on the floor, but had just bought my spitfire, think he wanted scrap value for the car at the time, would hate to think what a car like that would be worth now, it was orange and in very good usable condtion apart from the welding to the floor.

Probably ended up been scrapped in the end as they did not have the cult following they have these days sadly :(
