I made a mould to do mine but never kept it unfortunately as it broke on removal being so thin and flexible. Its the centre console which gets altered to suit the early radios.

Thanks David, it’s a space thing once done which is always my issue. I’ve not committed to a sale yet as refused a deposit so just verbals giving me flexibility, if I’m finishing it for someone else I might as well do it for myself. Either way it’s going for paint this month 👍🏻 One person wants white and the other orange.

My car will be a sad sale considering the time and effort taken to get it where it’s currently sat. I’ve had four pretty serious enquiries and a few just asking casual questions. I always try to price them right and looks like I’ll be finishing the restoration which may make letting it go very hard. I’ve spent the last 7 years doing three Esprits and two minis so time for a car break to concentrate on my other passion being motorcycles. Been offered a good business opportunity with someone retiring soon which I’m keen to enact on. If it does go it won’t be my last I’m sure, I still have a serious M100 passion so may go back to that route. Just finishing a LHD bond replica for someone on here which is looking nice now. I think offering to build a car for under £50k was a good price as that’s what attracted the buyers especially giving them colour options and finish. Dave

1st Lotus! 1978 Esprit S2 - Needs work 🙂
LOTUSMAN33 replied to TheOrs's topic in Esprit 'Project & Restoration' Room
Great to meet Darren today, lovely fella with a very nice original S2, the body and paint are fantastic with no stress cracks and sunroof free. The chassis is solid and it’s had some money spent on it over the years with a good stainless exhaust. It won’t take much of a boost to give him a good running car with ongoing improvements as budget allows. I’d certainly would have been happy to find that nestled away local to me, another will be saved soon I feel 🙂 -
S2 A pillar interior capping removal?
LOTUSMAN33 replied to TheOrs's topic in Interior/Exterior/Lights/Glass/Alarms/ICE/HVAC
Hi Darren The interior A post finisher has three metal clips which fit into three plastic inserts. They should just pop away without much force. The clips can get a little rusty sometimes. Happy to pop over if you want some help and guidance 👍🏻 -

It only takes a little stone or similar debris to cause all kinds of jamming issues 🙂 -
Esprit S1 Seat Rails & Webbing

It should knock back enough to expose both bolts, keep tapping it back and forth 🤞🏼 -
Esprit S1 Seat Rails & Webbing

As Steve says, give them a spray with WD40 and use a nylon mallet to give them some gentle persuasion. The webbing is correct just perished, any upholstery person could replace or DIY it 🙂 -
Probably why it’s been missing so long, it’s turned up red in Finland with no historical paperwork from the U.K. The chassis plate is correct as 10935.

Yes they are correct for the S1, they shouldn’t be on the bumper as that was a S2 position. 👍🏻

Hi Elliot The number plate lights are different but available via SJ cheap enough. The black Sikaflex will be a pain, the car should have chrome screen trims so looks like yours have been painted and sealed I suspect? Its all fixable, the clutch can be a weak spot with sticking so you’ll probably end up fitting new. Dave

Looking at your rear end (car naturally) the license plate holder appears to be aftermarket/fabricated so covering the hole for the sunken plinth which is available from SJ with the securing brackets and lamps. The S2 lights have been fitted over the original holes too far out so you may be lucky and able to fit the S1 units with minimal work. Again the plinths are available from SJ’s with the brackets. As Paul stated the lights are X1/9 so easy to obtain. You have a federal rear valance fitted at the moment missing it’s grille, again you can change this for a domestic one available from SJ’s. I have a repair panel to rebuild your front so you can then buy the one piece blade spoiler/undertray fitted to the later S1’s. Mines 357G so a few cars after yours. To save the work I’d be tempted to just do the rear lights and spoiler, tidy it up and enjoy as is, the S2 spoiler looks nice enough as do speedlines. You can have them chrome painted these days giving that nice look. Seats and wheels are tough to find in the U.K. and expensive to ship so being in Oz you could save a big dent in the wallet. 🙂

It would have been S1 spec from the factory, owners updated them to reflect the changes. Mind ended up like a turbo although now back in S1 form after lots of work described by Paul above. Nice car though 👍🏻
