Unrecognised whine

Under acceleration, or just normal?

I find if you're driving with the exhaust valve open you can barely hear the supercharger. When it's in quiet mode, the supercharger "sounds" much louder.

Downshifting and overrun too? Gearbox. Mine makes a whine initially when moving off and also as stated downshifting and rolling to a stop on the 'box alone.

The 'box checks out fine - TADTS was what i have come to understand.

@Blasholla sent me a video clip of the noise. It's definitely not normal. Am sure when it is sorted he'll let us know what it was. Was clearly audible even on crappy phone speakers/microphone.

According to lotus it's a supercharger which are on back order. I am praying that Andy from lotus manages to get me a replacement unit for Thursday as my best mate is using the car for his wedding Friday in Bournemouth

sad times I honestly have lost count of all the problems with the car ?

Speak to Westover, I'm sure they'd lend one their demo 400s, they have 3 or 4 cars for sale.

If the wedding was in York I'd have offered to help out. Surely there is a TLF member down that way that could help out if the car isn't fixed by then? Maybe a squadron of 400 playing the wedding march on throttle blips?

I know that it's frustrating having so many problems with the car, but I hope it doesn't put you off. It really is something special.

@Blasholla out of curiosity, do you know the build date of your car, or anything which might give us a clue as to its age? I've not heard of any 400s having superchargers replaced. I would love to know if yours is an early or a later one.

Serial number, expansion bottle, pedals are all good indicators

*Everything* is on backorder. My advice is be firm with your dealer, you have a right to a repair and a *timely* repair at that.

If you have the Lotus lettering on the console yours is an extremely early car. One of the first 25-30 probably.

Yep, get it raised as an OTR repair. (Off the road).

that seems to escalate things, as they will grab items from production line I believe rather than wait for after sales availability.

also put in a call to Neil Turner at Customer Services, if he can help he will.

I always found out what the wine was by looking at the label on the bottle.

Taste doesn't always work depending on how long you've been at it. :getmecoat:

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.
