V8 Parts Cross References

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I would also be interested in a post 98 clutch slave cylinder cross reference as I have searched online for some time now without success. I have also asked Lotus specialists who have been unable to help. The only thing I can add to this is that when I removed mine and cleaned it up I found 'Renault' embossed onto the casting but was unable to match it up to any Renault slave cylinder images I could find.

Thanks

Hi March

Interesting , did yours have the markings "FTE and any digits"

It's Delphi 23.81mm bore, I've tried sourcing a seal kit without success

I'm sure it could be retrofitted with a part having the same mounting holes and a similar travel

Cheers

Dave,

Yes there are some FTE markings but I cannot remember the digits - It's back on the car and all connected up. I will have look underneath at the weekend to see if I can see the digits.

Slave Cylinder

When I finaly get my car back home ( to do some diagnostics) I will check the slave cylinder ( leaking) as I think its a Land Rover part and since I have several different ones in stock ( for LR) I may be able to find a replacement.

In the meantime - anyone got any dims as I can measure and see if I have something suitable

Anyone have a cross reference for rear discs on the V8 please.

I don't think they cross reference any other disc but I think PNM Engineering now stock them. Ring 0151 630 6101 and ask for Pete or John.

I've had a dig around all of my data and no, I can't find any cross reference for them either (post 94 Brembo on your V8 I assume).

As Dave said, PNM have replacements in stock:

  PRICE VAT TOTAL PRODUCT CODE   Lotus Esprit Front Standard Replacement Discs (pair) £ 90.00 £ 18.00 £ 108.00 PNMJ4380   Lotus Esprit Front Grooved or Drilled (pair) £ 130.00 £ 26.00 £ 156.00 PNMJ4380G   Lotus Esprit Rear Standard (pair) £ 120.00 £ 24.00 £ 144.00 PNMJ0300   Lotus Esprit Rear Grooved or Drilled (pair) £ 160.00 £ 32.00 £ 192.00 PNMJ0300G

SJ also do them but a bit more expensive (that's plus VAT and shipping):

REAR BRAKE DISC (Brembro)

A082D4160F EACH 88.00

Cheers

Alan

Someone did mention to me that Ford Modeo front discs @ 300mm x 24mm vented are almost identical just need the securing screw hole to be relocated in the correct position. I will look into it and get back.

My Lotus Service Notes manual tells me that the fronts are 296mm the rears are 300mm.

Let us know how you get on Martin, if they work then I will add them to my cross reference db.

Hi

Ive just fitted new discs and pads all round on my 96 V8, i decided to go with EBC all round, however found that EBC only do front discs and pads and pads for the rear, so no discs. I wanted discs that would match all round so decided to look into any other applications that might match the rears and found that a Ford Mondeo Mk3 front disc has all the correct dimentions with the exception of the securing screw holes needed to be located as per the Lotus hub. Took my new hubs and the old ones as templates to my local engineering company and theyve done a superb job, discs fitted perfect and pads are in too and working. The other thing that needs to be done is the bolt holes on the Mondeo discs are 13.7mm whereas the Lotus are 14mm, so i got them to check and open them up to Lotus spec. I have only just finished fitting the brakes so need to get them bedded in now, i will report back later to let you know how things are going.

I used EBG GD1130 front discs (Lotus V8)

and EBC GD981 rear disc  (Ford Mondeo fronts)

and EBC Red pads all round

My son was able to get 35% discount fpr me due to his job, which was great.

No i didnt but i did notice that the bore was about 2.5mm larger on the Mondeo discs, will that present me with a problem? As the wheel bolts will centre the disc to the hub or have i missed something?

Sorry Martin, I'm a bit dubious about this setup for several reasons.

Firstly, you have a ridiculous performance car and you are scrimping on the brakes. I would be very concerned with anything that is not of the "Lotus standard". For discs, I would go for PNM replacements, they're engineered to suit the car. You can have them in any flavour, plain, grooved or drilled. Or go mad and get full AP Racing replacements.

Secondly I have read many, many threads on the forum about pads and EBC and the only sensible set that is generally recommended is Ferodo, even at a price (but then it is a Lotus :-p ). EBC gets many a bad write up. Quote:

"Ferodo DS2500 pads from Demon Tweeks............ so two things learnt

1) when looking at the EBC greenstuff pads upon removal they were smoother than a baby's bum, to the point I would say that they were glazed, so that explains the poorer performance but what is strange is my understanding that to glaze the pads you need to overheat them which having only done 2000 general motorway / A roads and a few brake tests 60mph to zero not sure how that would cause it to glaze. Anyway I've cleaned the discs up, no evidence of overheating there, no blueing of the surface or cracks so after a polish with my grinder they are ready to receive the new pads.

2). Took the plunge and ordered the DS2500 unfortunately unsure of correct pad references I spoke directly to Demon Tweeks to get the right pads. Unfortunately the fronts were the wrong size so after a quick call I've received the right ones.

So here is the correct references for brembo equipped cars:

Fronts are FCP1348H (H denotes the compound as being DS2500)

Rears are FCP1560H.

Total cost was £230

Make sure you order some copaslip (hi temp anti seizing assembly compound) as the DS2500 pads are not backed with rubber to stop them rattling and/or seizing."

Just my two penn'orth:-)
