Lotus Esprit S1/2/2.2 needed for Classic Cars magazine feature
LOTUSMAN33 replied to Bibs's topic in Esprit Chat
I subscribe Lez so get the copy early, the guy was very complimentary of your car cementing it as his dream car but out of his price range. The bleak Lancashire day really brought out the S1 lines making a nice shoot, the photos set should look great making your time worth while. ๐ -

Spent some more time sanding the body this weekend, I now know why it was painted in 1978 as under the white the lagoon blue had been keyed both sides. Its a slow job, the tailgate is now back to the original primer with just a couple tiny spots of pink gel coat showing through, this is easy compared to the body as pretty flat. The original paint job was not prepped well as the majority of the blue is still present including the lacquer. I want to get the car down to gel coat ideally then get the body coated in Upol Reface so I can guide coat it back before primer and top coat. Looks like the passenger door mirror area has had some repairs on the door which will want some rework, the holes needed glassing anyway as Iโll be fitted an original pod mirror. Unfortunately my 5โ Orbital sander died today so a new one is required before I can carry on, Iโll get it down to blue then block sand it back to gel coat I think. Dave

Front re-inforcement bar S1 / S2s...
LOTUSMAN33 replied to pmth95's topic in Suspension/Brakes/Wheels/Hubs/Steering/Geo
Itโs the chassis cross brace, the radiator duct closing panel attaches to it. My early federal car doesnโt have it either. https://www.sjsportscars.com/parts-and-accessories/A079A4056K.htm https://www.sjsportscars.com/parts-and-accessories/SJ079K0015.htm My late S1 has it 357G -
Iโve not seen it since being sold so happy itโs still out and about, it wasnโt a bad car, it had been painted a slightly darker green but good enough job and cleaned up well. I think I repaired the wishbones as well from memory although that could have been the SE afterwards. As you say itโs certainly travelled up the country from Plymouth and had a fair bit spent on it so someone should get a decent car for potentially sensible money. ๐

Definitely not Keith even at ยฃ500, itโs a breaker as I see it. NMY is really nice but does fade so not easy finding a good one. I have nearly bought a couple yellow S2โs over the years but both werenโt as described on viewing so slipped through the net. A red one is my close second or even white with the red carpets and seat inserts looks good.
-
I used to enjoy the Donington days and must go up the loft and post some of the many photos I used to take. Iโve never owned a yellow one but itโs the colour I do fancy next. I agree the red ones with matching seats and carpets are equally as attractive. What I do know is if I donโt buy one in the next year or so then they will probably creep into five figures for even tired cars. ๐ซค๐

Not sure Rambo but looks very nice, I do like the yellow SE seats with matching yellow carpets. ๐

Itโs a right old state and the wrong yellow by the look of it, total dreamer I thought tbh. Thereโs a very nice 1992/Norfolk yellow one on Facebook marketplace for ยฃ10k which would get my coin.
-
Slow progress but taking the paint down layer by layer, the yellow will be with the DA but from then on Iโll do it by hand making sure all the lagoon blue is gone. Iโll stop at the yellow coming off over winter then get the proper prep underway in the spring before heading to the paintshop. It certainly looks different now, part of me still wishes I restored it back to how I owned it in the 90โs.

My grandad was a traffic officer and would regularly drive us 3 kids up the motorway from Devon to London in the boot of a Vauxhall Viva estate, sometimes he had four people on the rear seat as well. Madness today but common practice back thenโฆ. I think itโs called dodging the bullet ! ๐ Could have been worse thoughโฆ a saloon car! ๐

Restoration of 837G
LOTUSMAN33 replied to Alistair Enser's topic in Esprit 'Project & Restoration' Room
Just checked mine, itโs pretty solid in there so looks like itโs a good push fit, think Iโd clean it up with plenty of carb cleaner and push back in with a little loctite 638. -
Restoration of 837G

Iโve never removed the tube but have a sump on the garage floor so will have a look, I assumed they were a tight press fit bonded with some sort of compound/loctite. Is it loose in the hole now? -

I prefer the thackery washers as well, many of the rubber grommets are so soft these days compared to years ago you have to overtighten to eliminate leaks. Iโve used both carriers with O seals and the plate/seal arrangements, my preference is the carriers as per Peteโs car.
