  1. Been a tad busy on this little project.. However got time now to sort the random and bizarre fuelling issue that’s plagued the Esprit since rebuild. I’ll start with this I guess and take it from there…
  2. Having used the Esprit on occasional dry days over the Winter period i have managed to get her up to 1000 miles since rebuild. If i get chance over the Easter period ill get the fluids changed and check torques etc. Running very well now and its been so long since i saw the ABS warning i almost never have it appear in my nightmares. That has been replaced by a house extension! The alternator did manage to work loose but it was a 10 minute fix and hardly warranted a post. In other news i swapped out my daily Cayenne (of which i have owned many with hardly ever a problem) and replaced her with a Range Rover Vogue SE. For anyone who likes random, regular, mysterious and bizarre faults these bad boys are a dream come true! The can bus loom is comical. For example adjust the passenger seat and you get an airbag fault on the drivers side door.
  3. Whatever pads were sent with the discs. Thats part of the problem. I have got green stuff pads on the S2 Elan with an AP brake conversion and they work well. I might try a set and see if noticeable improvement and report back 🫡
  4. Mine currently coat the wheels in black soot like brake dust after 30 miles of driving. They were bought from PNM with new discs a few years ago and although hardly worn drive me insane, Can anyone recommend an aftermarket pad that isnt track biased and has low dust qualities?? Shaun.
  5. Thanks to SailorBob who called over last week to dial in the tps etc with his laptop and knowledge. We also visited the ABS. Everything pointed to the accumulator so a WABCO was ordered and duly fitted. Now fully working and handbrake also adjusted as it was pulling up almost to the handle stop. So thats engine AND brakes running well.
  6. The hook type are more than capable of esprit springs. I use them in situ to release tension on the coilovers when adjusting the spring plate. torque them both a little at a time to keep the spring straight. Dont forget the Esprit is a fairly light car so poundage isnt huge
  7. Headlight sorted. pressure switch is in absolutely solid! A four hand job I expect.
  8. And nearside wobbly headlight pod which 'almost' caused MOT issues.
  9. A good day (minus 1 knuckle) fettling the ride on the Esprit today. Both front dampers removed, cleaned and adjusters freed off. Amazing what a difference a couple of turns on the spring plates does. Still not perfect but the extra preload combined with a couple of clicks softer at the rear and a good few turns softer on the front = much better. Doesn't corner like a roller skate on mega smooth tarmac (1% of any driving around here) now but my fillings are still in tact and drives far better on the local pot hole filled roads. Also far less clunks and bangs. Tomorrows lovely job is cleaning of the dreaded ABS pressure switch to hopefully sort the intermittent blink and compressor run every pedal push issue.
  10. Standing the cam belt for prolonged periods isnt good on the Esprit engine due to the tight radius on the bottom pulley. Its not the belt itself but delamination of the teeth on the belt. You would be ready on time for a new belt even if regularly run. You may be Ok for initial start but change before running.
  11. Pro Tech from SJ with standard (shortened) springs
  12. Followed Swindon Alans instructions on this thread Yesterday and fixed the intermittent pod flash problems I had by adding the type B relay workaround. I actually prefer the 'hold back and wiggle' rather than delay. Also added some new rubber tops to the end stops which has eliminated the 'clunk' on headlight raise. I have to say the pod raise on my M100s is far superior, smooth as silk in comparison.
  13. 300 miles on her now and running great. Went through various fastenings Yesterday and also traced my intermittent headlight pod raise for flash to the relay. Followed Swindon Alans walkthrough and installed a type B Relay so works perfectly with no delay. Hold stalk back and wiggle to flash is actually better than the pods staying raised. My mechanic and race team tech friend (mentioned in the very first line of this blog) was treated to a ride yesterday. He agrees that the refresh along with the standard exhaust set up has transformed the car. Hopefully will get access to the garage pit this weekend for refit of the under tray and adjustment of the front dampers. I love the look of the stance however the pause from use has made me realise just how 'crashy' the set up is. All bushings are good so I need some more preload on the springs (currently have little or none) and soften the dampers a notch. Had also forgot how much attention the car gets!!
  14. It would be a good place to start. I have door card duties in the coming days as the 2 week = 18 month engine refresh period has not blessed the passenger window with movement. To get the factory alarm working with a flip key would be a great upgrade. i had genuinely forgot while doing the engine that i had to use the key to lock the door.
  15. I have an aftermarket alarm as the original one was tampered with many years ago. I could never figure how to splice into the loom to get the doors to activate properly due to the back to front nature of the fiberglass car system so left it on the key. I did buy an alarm system from a UK company called Hawk for one of my M100 Elans which came with full schematics for the specific car and that worked a treat.
  16. 😀🫡 Yes Ian, I salute you. No more check light. Now more importantly, what are you fiddling with now???
  17. Plugged back in but still error. That wasnt the cable btw, that one is black with a green, red trace. Oooh Ian, you could be right!!!
  18. Ahh interesting. The old solenoid was in place prior to rebuild but i removed it as it was just blanked off! Ill try a reinstall and plug that sucker in to it.
  19. It’s on the other side of the inlet on early S4 👍
  20. I did Barry but I have an errant connector. Obv all throttle jack components have been removed but I’m still left with this cable, tag fell off during storage/refit and I’m buggered if I know where it goes. Yellow with brown trace and a black. Car is throwing a check light but assuming that will be until I can get on a free scan/espritmon to set up throttle cable/TPS/AICV relationship. (My cable that cost a fair few quid gave up after a few weeks use)
  21. Top work Tom, just caught up on this. As an electrical numbskull myself i may be wrong but are you saying that you didn't have to touch any wiring on the car itself and the only programming required was to the module due to no remotes being paired?
  22. Its far from normal with my car. It used to sit just below the end of the red section and the tell tale flickered when you blipped the throttle.
