  1. Does any one else had cars do a "Remora" effect ( cars sicking close by to get a view or picture) when there driving?
  2. Had the car serviced today and a long chat about the clutch and their comment was after a exam and drive test , don’t worry about it and from trying a 410 this morning I would estimate it’s a bit over 50% worn. Service cost wise my 400 here in Sydney been the same as a very much the same as my other cars. I didn’t think the cost of the clutch kit was too bad as I found out it’s made by AP.
  3. Seeing I have been rabbiting on about clutch life. No and 2016 400 43500 miles
  4. Fair comment, I take the OEM mats out and replace them with outer for the time being, And as for the cost it is very much dependant an on your finances and being a retiree I need to keep track of them.
  5. 43,500. no issues so far. Basic use description is mainly freeway and three full track days. I am thinking of starting a survey for people to get some idea of clutch.
  6. Well these guys managed to destroy one in 32,000 miles. Good part is there is evedence to show what caused it https://www.youtube.com/c/DreamcarsDaily/videos
  7. I have a bunch of petrol head friends to call on for those type of jobs, and the rear hatch needs to people. I will be putting an S2 Elan together shortly for a friend so a Coffee and cake bribe works.
  8. Jonny No slippage, I just spooked by reports of low clutch life and have been asking about clutch life on 4XX cars including the caveats re use and your the only one who has given any insight. With 43500. miles I'll keep driving and start saving. I can do the work myself as that my retirement hobby on classics so money spent on a hoist and spares
  9. Justin, Thank you that's actually encouraging, however early pre 4XX 30,000 miles seems comon.
  10. when I bought the car (57,000ks) I asked about the clutch change and doing in the car they believed was possible. I believe this car is the highest mirage 400. now at 70,000ks. 43,000miles. miles. the car done mainly freeway and 3 track days. I am having the car serviced on Friday with a request to the techs to assess what they think. the techs are really good and support the SSC Targa cars.
  11. I just got a quote for a new clutch in my 400 and I'm still in recovery..
  12. Honest video but I cannot help but say Catchpole looks like an Elf
  13. Thank you for the link that has been discusses earlier in this thread Australia and DAB is at this point city only and not widely used, FM still rules. OK my main need is for Android Auto for apps, My initial idea with the thread was there were adapter for the alpine ine-w990bt unit, however it may not be at the Android 4 and above so the only way to achieve this is via a new head unit.
  14. Any one fitted one of these an Alpine iLX-W650E unit and how ever they need a 15 AMP There is an option AMP as the 650 is only shallow
  15. This is probably in the wrong section and I'm sure Bibs will find the best location, I really Morgans, enthusiasms thinking a and the whole concept of the the car. I have a passion for the motor eclectic cars ( not electric)and design long live Morgan 3 wheeler's So much of this new 3 wheeler smacks of LOTUS philosophy. And there are may more
  16. My 400 which is the highest kilometer/mile age car I am aware of in Australia at 70,000. ks ( approx 43,000 mile) Pre empting the comment about driving style, yes it's life is how its driven etc.. Mine has a combination of mostly free way and and what I know of 3 full track days. My question is as the 400 clutch was a significance up upgrade to the S, who has changed a clutch on a 4xx and after what distance and what sort of use?
  17. OK I am now rather confused, and may be my question was a bit vague. There are a number of car link units on the market that are USB connected however they are only Android compatible 4.4 not sure what the Alpine INE-W990BT is. All I am wanting to do is connect my phone apps to be accessible on the head unit https://carlinkitcarplay.com/products/carlinkit-wirless-adapter-for-android-head-unit-support-carplay-and-android-auto Or replace the head unit, but I would like to keep the EVORA 400 display on start up.
  18. 122, you nailed it, seems it was a one off, been fine since.
  19. Hi Darryl, Just confirming this will make Android car play available on the ALPINE INE-W990BT head unit Can you please post a link to the Part numbers for the adapter cables.
  20. I have just found( bit slow on the uptake on new tech) There are adapters for Android and Apple car play, and rather than replace the original ALPINE INE-W990BT head unit on my 400. Has anyone done this? pros and cons.
  21. I agree with Travis’s assessment, nice thing about 2024 it’s weldable, 7075, is what Boeing 747 wing planks are made from, as strong as it is it suffers from intergranular corrosion. 5058 would be more suitable allow. As this raked a concern with the 400 it “ appears to be the same, but it’s easily inspected
  22. Panel insulation reattached, and after doing this and reinstalling it, I have more clearance from the wiring loom How I attached it was I cleaned off the 1/4' of glue, however I now would do that as you can see it sits in further, but its done. The Insulation material is compressed on the edges if you run glue on it to the panel the same thing will happen again. painted the compressed edges with polyester resin, or epoxy if you prefer the makes a solid edge. I then used some contact to attach the insulation in a few places to hold it the sealed the edges using a non corrosive type sealant along the vertical edges to bond the insulation to the panel I also cut some of the insulation where the slip nut go so when the panel is removed next time and it will it wont rip the insulation off. and another tip do all the screws up by hand as I had to drill two off as using an electric drill and and an alan key bit chews the heads out...
  23. Being diligent today I decided to check the engine oil, as you need a torch I found the heat shield adrift. for reference part number A132B0120F The part is a sandwich of F/G and an aluminum skin that has a fibrous heat shield material. I surmise that the reason the aluminum and fibrous seperated is if the panel is removed the slip nuts that hold the panel protrude under the aluminum when installed but if its removed the slip nut effectively pull the aluminum away from the panel. In my case thas appears to have happened and it was glued backtogether. The glue only attaches to a black soft fabric that's bonded to the heat shield material as as this material is like compressed fibrous material they just separate.
  24. Play nice everyone, other wise the forum will finish up like the Ferrari chat Australian section
