  1. Yes, remember their chassis. I guess it would be around 10k. I'm a bit of a purist (others call me a fuddy duddy), I like originality over a pimped up version. Safety wise I don't object to upgrades. Tomorrow my Sportwagon is going into the garage to have Brembo brakes and drop links fitted. Apologise for my ignorance, why is a 130 worth less?
  2. It spiked my interest. Contacted the seller and it's made to look like a Elan 130. The engine was rebuilt by Vegantune in the 1980s, it's a big bore twin cam engine. However, the paintwork has micro blisters. A proper respray using plastic paint isn't cheap. The owner said come and drive it and decide. I love the two tone as it takes me back to when I had mine. Is it worth it?
  3. Some smart looking Lotus cars. I turned up too late to see a lot of them.
  4. And designed by the person who designed the Alfa 156 facelift
  5. Once you get the taste for Lotus they are hard to resist. Very addictive 😍 My old Elan not only drove differently but had a distinctive smell, inside and out.
  6. I'm used to checking on rust protection having owned Alfas since 2006. I've been lucky with my current bundles.
  7. IMO it isn't how fast or racy they, but like Alfa Romeo it's how they make you feel. More smiles per miles. Both brands have a lovely analogue feel to them, the quick steering rack and accelerator are immediate, feedback from the steering is great when you corner hard. And like some of best people, they both have imperfections but have enough redeeming features to overlook their deficiencies.
  8. Don't like the notion of electric. We looked at electrical cars a few years back and found it doesn't save the planet or money. Hydrogen is far more palatable with the use of water. My Alfas are 19 and 20 years old, over twice the lifespan of a Tesla battery. Work it out for yourself.
  9. Also like Lotus Cortinas but the MK1 versions are selling for silly money, the MK2 a little more palletable. However, anything from the 1960s has rust written all over them. The Sunbeam Lotus falls beautifully within my brief: A modern classic with a modicum of rust protection. And there's no silly convertibles.
  10. Likewise, give me a Eurobox any day. American cars are fine as long as you don't have to drive them.
  11. Indeed, it's practical for the family and still has the lovely Lotus soundtrack under the bonnet.
  12. Of course it's very subjective, but I'm not keen on any American car. That being said, my neighbour has quite a nice early Mustang
  13. There are certain cars that should never be a convertible and the Cortina is one of them. I know Crayford made a number of classic Ford with a soft top. Other cars that look wrong as a convertible: Mini Fiat 500 Any classic Ford Morris Minor Etc etc etc.
  14. The Avon version is meant to be very desirable. Rare as hens teeth.
  15. It was good to meet some of guys, pity the weather was rubbish. Hope the gentleman with the limited edition no top Lotus didn't have to stop and bail out the cars gizzard. Let's hope next month will be clement.
  16. Spotted this in our village a few days ago. Looks like a Lotus.
  17. That actual engine still survives. Thanks to a couple of real train geeks I found online, the above Bulleid Pacific, named 'City of Wells' still runs on the East Lancs railway. That was rescued from S. Wales. I've been promising myself I'll have to visit the preservation line and touch my grandad's loco. But work and home commitments have stopped me so far. And it's a long way to travel from Surrey.
  18. Very nice. It's good to know I'm not alone in miniature trains. Trains are in my family. My grandad spent the whole of his working life on Southern railways, eventually becoming the driver of the Golden Arrow. My dad, after he was demobbed from the RAF spent a few years on Southern railway. Attached is picture of my grandpa-pa
  19. I have loads of Tri-ang and Hornby oo gauge railway. As we don't have a spare room, it's sadly consigned to the attic, collecting dust. At some point I might put up a large shed and fix it all up.
  20. Yes, fab colour. It really suits the 147 GTA as it does my very rare 156 Sportwagon. Thank you. Certainly from a practical point of view (accommodating the family) the Sunbeam Lotus is ahead of the bunch. If it wasn't for the family, another Elan + 2 seems plausible.
  21. Visited Bell & Colvill a few weeks ago and sat inside the Emira. What a stunning looking car. Lotus have always made pretty cars but the Emira screams "race me!", really purposeful. I guess the running costs & maintenance would astronomical.
