  1. Yes it was the IGUS ones I fitted to my brothers car. I did not feel any additional vibration from them but just the shift was quite stiff compared to my car. However there is a load of other variables obviously.
  2. Hi Andy no I saw the title. There was a conversation started a few years ago about changing the standard rubber bushes for some ptfe coated hard plastic DU or DZ bushes (I can't remember which, they were German supplied black shell with a grey spherical joint inside). I changed the ones on my brothers Esprit for these as I thought it would help get rid of any free play. They did this but just made the change too stiff IMO. cheers Christian ps the ones I fitted to my Esprit look similar to the PNM parts (I actually got mine from SJ). these are the ones I would go for.
  3. there is a link describing the rose join option but I think SJ just sell standard. I did the rose joints (DU bushes) on my brothers car and just replaced all the rubbers bushes with new standard ones and if anything I prefer mine as not quite so stiff. cheers C43
  4. this is the leather trim I had to removed that I could not save, you might be luckier but hopefully you don't have to go this far.
  5. I have just rebuilt my S3 so know this area of the car fairly. Well. I agree there should be captive nuts although you know with these cars you can't always guarantee they have the correct nuts. If you unscrew them carefully doing one at a time you should be able to tell if it feels right. It you do have to get to the back of them you will have to remove the trim that the sun visors are attached to. On mine this involved removing (unsticking) a piece of leather along the front of the trim that was there to hide the edge when looking from the front of the car. This did not like being removed and I had to get a new piece made. I was lucky as I got an exact match on colour but just be aware of this. I can probably send pictures if required. cheers C43
  6. same one as the cooling fans on the S2 so if your cooling fans stop working watch out for your water temp!
  7. No I think your right, one of the bolts should go through and hold the drive in place. However when they rebuild my gearbox they put a short bolt in so I can just pull my right angled drive out (as I did once accidentally). I am thinking this may be why my speed jumps, because my drive is not rigidly held in place. Trouble is to fit a longer bolt I need to remove the silencer and lower exhaust mount. May be a good job if I am stuck at home for a week or so!
  8. Hi Choppa I used the same company so pretty sure my speedo is fine. Also if I put a drill on the gearbox end of the speedo cable and drive the cable that way the speedo is rock solid. cheers Christian
  9. my speedo is very erratic bouncing around a lot. I have checked the speedo itself and changed the cable to no avail. I am thinking that drive gear may be worn, or perhaps the right angle drive. Can I remove that gear or the right angle drive without taking the back off the gearbox? ta Christian
  10. tickets purchased so as long as the car is running I am going!
  11. HI hope to come in my 1984 Turbo Esprit, its close to me. regards Christian
  12. as above. start book and play around with it. And yes love your S2, great looking car.
  13. I will be interested to see your feedback. I also like to heel and toe but really struggle on my 84 turbo. I think the important thing is to set the brake pedal quite high and the throttle pedal as lot as possible whilst still being able to get full travel. cheers Christian
  14. I used Mike at Lotusbits for my 84 turbo rebuild last year. I would recommend any of the well known companies but make it somewhere you can get to. Lotusbits was on my way to work and I ended up popping in there a lot to discuss options / issues. good luck C43
  15. Hi Mike yes that is O/S driver side and yes it has too much toe in at the rear on one side. I have an 84 turbo with both rear wheels toe in too much, by about 1mm each side measured at the rim. I think this means I have to add about 2 - 3mm of shim. I have bought the shim and was looking last night at the logistics of fitting the shim. Its a bit of a PITA but I must admit I am tempted to leave it as is. The car drives really sweetly and from many years of racing experience the upside of too much toe in at the rear is increased rear end stability. The downside it gives more mid corner understeer. However, since I don't struggle with mid corner understeer I am tempted to leave as is. I know its different from the book but we have a massive difference on our cars from how they left the factory in that we are running different rubber. You might be tempted to change yours to equal them up though. BTW if you are doing this would be a good time to renew the rubber bush at the front of the trailing arm if not done recently. cheers C43
  16. I seem to remember SJ changed the length of the purple bushes as the first ones I got were far too long. The second ones I got were fine and I have used them for 2000 miles. cheers C43
  17. I was just about to post the same question. My tube has definitely come off and I had the glovebox out and still could not see were the tube pushes on inside the bodywork, it seems impossible to get to, anyone got any ideas, Ant Man perhaps?
  18. I have the T-Piece, just can't find the hose it plugs onto. However I have been looking on the top of the tunnel whereas from what you say I think it comes out high up above were the radio would live. I'll have a look tomorrow, thanks for the help. cheers Christian
  19. thanks mate, I am guessing it comes out near the heater then?
  20. Hi Andy my vacuum was taken apart but another party and I am trying to put it all back together as no heater in this weather is no much fun. I can't find where the pipe from the reservoir on top of the RH tank comes out inside the cockpit. i am guessing it runs along the top of the backbone inside the chassis with the throttle cable, speedo drive, oil pressure line and turbo pressure line, does that make sense? However I can't find the end of it, any clues? ta Christian
  21. yes thats what I have. If you PM me your address I'll bung it in the post. cheers C43
  22. I think I have a spare. On the S3 it is different between passenger and drivers side. Ill take a photo and post it here.
