This effort is over 2 years in the making. And, Lotus no longer have MJK around to have sympathy for the "classics." Anyone know if Lotus are really still committed to coming up with the package if/when we hit the "magic number?"

Since I posted on the Yahoo group we've got a little surge in extra interested. Maybe will get those 15 outstanding names very soon and will find out if Lotus is still up for it. I hope they are.

Due to the lack of numbers and costs of development for the new Bilstein/Eibach suspension upgrade Lotus cannot realistically carry on the development of this upgrade unless there are significant numbers of people interested in purchasing. If only 10/20 people wish to follow this route then Lotus will lose a significant amount of money on the project which, as nice as they are, they can't justify. If 75+ people were interested, there's a lot more chance of us getting this off the ground.

Please post below if you would purchase this suspension if it were available. It's not a contract to buy, but we do need a commitment to numbers so a good case can be made to Lotus to make this an economically good idea for them.

This link goes into quite a bit of detail. Cost is still up in the air but set-ups for the Stevens cars seemed to have been around GBP800-1000. The idea in development is remaining as true to the original handling as we can with modern components. In some circles, loss of "originality" has been maligned. But, what is original at this point? Although new springs may be available from SJ and Lotus stockists, the dampers are all aftermarket with mixed quality and supplied without any on-car development. What is proposed is a spring and damper system that has been developed and tuned on-car by Lotus engineers. There really won't be any better currently available options for suspension renewal on our cars.

However, it should be noted for us Yanks that this will be developed on a RHD domestic market "mule" (sorry, Gordon ). The US cars had taller, stiffer springs due to bumper height requirements, IDR if the dampers were different. So, buying into the new Lotus system will convert a Federal car to UK specs. The Federal cars (and maybe the LHD ROW cars) also had a spacer on the L rear spring perch to maintain an even ride height so that will also need to be maintained.
