V8 radiator replacement

Made some more progress.  Used some stainless square nuts in the Spal slide fittings.  I got them slightly over size and warmed them up and melted them in for a more secure fit.

then riveted the circular frame support in and bolted the Spal fans to rings therefore retaining the shroud etc.

rivet gun broke 2 from the end so will get complete pictures tonight

That's a nice tidy job. Is that your original shroud all tidied up or a new one?

My frame has been obliterated so Serck, who are refubing my rad, are bolting the fans direct to the rad frame as close to the rad core as possible.

Yes that’s the original shroud.  I just thought if it was on to start with, it must be of some use........but looking back it’s probably to aid the smaller original fans., only thing that wasn’t absolutely knackered that came off the car 🤪

if it falls to bits I’ll just bolt them to the new Radiator

Awesome write up.  I have two cars each one with a coolant leak.  I am  finishing up a leak on another car and then I will be pulling out the radiator on my 98 V8 Esprit.  I think upgrading to the Spal fans is a great idea.  I know in the past I went in and took my manifold off and replaced the injectors and coolant temp sensor while I was there and also the thermostat.  The thermostat seemed to make a huge difference in fast warm up and also a more consistent temp.  The coolant leak has been there for awhile and I was trying to summon the courage and time to address it and after seeing this thread that time is here.  Thanks to all the contributors to this an all write ups.

Just working on the radiator tray and trying to fibreglass new strengthening corners.  It’s been a long time since I removed it and wondered if anyone could remind me how this holds the radiator.  I think the radiator bolts through the side of this fibreglass tray, then 2 stays come from the chassis under neath (or over) the bits I’m fibreglassing.  Does it also fasten to the underbody ?

Looks good. Great utilisation of the shroud.

Yes the radiator sits in the shroud and 2 bolts each side hold it in place.

The stays sit inside /ontop of the shroud and bolt through from underneath. The shroud bolts to the body with two nuts and bolts each side.

The pic below is the right hand side of the shroud.
