Any recommendations for good days out, nice beaches, places to eat?

We're staying in a villa just south of Rethymno which seems pretty much in the middle and have a car.

Kourna lake can be nice. Pedalos and crystal water for swimming. Turtles hiding under the trees at the edge. Just make sure you go to the main area with bars and restaurants. There was a nasty place you get to first and you think you are there!

Worth a drive through the gorge (was too hot to do the walk when we were there) to get to the southern beaches where there is great snorkeling. Plakia? IIRC

Bali in the north also wont be far from you.

Very envious! Have a great time.

Been there. Done it. Can't remember much detail as it was over 10 years ago other than as a family holiday we all really loved it.

Superb island. Great beaches and some stunning locations. Have fun exploring, you'll all love it!

My comments and observations are my own, invariably "tongue in cheek", and definitely, sarcastic in nature. Therefore, do not take my advice, suggestions, observations or posts seriously or personally and remember if you do, do anything, that I may have suggested, then you have done this based solely on your own decision to do so and therefore you acknowledge responsibility and accountability (I know, in this modern world these are the hardest things for you to accept) for your actions and indemnify me of any influence, responsibility, accountability, or liability, in what you have done. In other words, you did it, so suffer the consequences on your own!

  • 2 weeks later...

Thank you for the advice folks, most appreciated.

Just back from a wonderful week of sunshine, great food and a beautiful island!

Funniest thing was taking the hire Micra back yesterday at the scamming knobs at the full service petrol station trying to fill it back up with €1.75/litre Shell Racing! They got a serious tick in their ear and learnt a few new English words but I bet they make a fortune on that little trick!

When we picked it up it had the tyre warning light on. I mentioned it of course but was told 'they all do that'! I did get some noise out of them on the corners but blamed it on the heat!

I see they are considering making people from Greece and France now isolate for 2 weeks as well after large surges in cases of Covid. You been spreading it around bibbo?
