Sports Racer - non gloss black wheel refurb?

Recommended Posts

My Evora (also white) came with the forged wheels in Anthracite from new, and the previous owner got the black pack added to make it look like a SR.

I kerbed an alloy and actually went the other way from Anthracite to gloss black, to my mind it matched the rest of the car better than dark grey.

Anyway, I found a local refurbishment company with a good reputation and they did the al four for just over £400, well pleased with the result.

You can get the TPMS sensors cheaper on ebay, they are GM units and used on some Saabs - plenty of threads about them, I needed to get a new one when I did my wheels.

Hey @pixelmix - not sure where you are in the country, but I used TheWheelSpecialist in Hillington. Was very pleased with both results and service.

I know Craig Moncrieff has someone he uses over in the EDI area. Not sure who that is.

For sensors I used TPMSWarehouse. UK based - again I have no complaints.

Thanks folks, that is all very helpful. Funnily enough it was the TWS I used in Edinburgh that managed not to tighten the security locking bolt. It was about 5 years ago but I can hold a grudge as the manager denied doing anything wrong!

I now live an equal distance from Edinburgh or Glasgow so maybe I'll try Glasgow this time!

Call first! Bloke in Hillington told me he previously had the Sighthill place (he knew Craig M cos of this). Don’t want you turning up and realising it’s the same bloke 😁

That's brilliant - thanks very much. I actually haven't had them done yet. I had left a message with one place at the start of last week and have not had a response yet so was going to chase up on Monday morning. I might just give Ecosse a shout instead.

The longevity comments are very helpful. My frustration with the diamond cut re-finish (admittedly quite a different job) previously was that 2 years later, the refurbed wheel was the worst of them all again, as clearly it isn't as well sealed as the factory finish.

Two new tyres and 4 new TPMS sensors have arrived this week though, so I was hoping to get all four wheels done soon ahead of taxing the car in March (SORN'd in Jan and Feb)

Calipers looking great too!

Thanks, but I have to admit that they are a little 'rough' in close-up. I think they now have several layers of paint on them, the last one applied by brush by yours truly during lockdown (nothing better to do) so it's on this year's 'to do' list to have a proper refurb done - a full strip back and powder coat by Ecosse then just hope that my hand is still steady enough to pick out the 'LOTUS' lettering again with a fine brush.
