My Evora N/A projects

Well finally got the suspension refresh almost finished. The last few pictures before the wheels refitted. Its been a well worth project and helping with the value being maintained.

Parts replaced - rear handbrake cables, Front & rear brake hoses, ARB bushes, replaced the TR-ends, F&R drop links, all the suspension bolts/nuts, all the under tray screws and clips, fitted new rear Spitfire toe links, replaced front mud flap brackets, blasted and repainted all the suspension, hubs, drive shafts parts and shockers and mounts. I also replaced the Serpentine drive belt with the proper tools which is one of the worst belt replacement jobs I have ever done and have replaced thousands over the years.  

The next project will be to remove the rear lights and repaint the light surrounds from chrome to black.

I ordered them online direct from tarox.com.  Took just over a month from order to delivery, but they were manufactured to order in Italy.

Do you have the weight of them - and the cost if you don't mind sharing.

They're certainly not lightweight items, but I'd say not significantly different to the standard discs (in weight).

Cost was £958.80 (including shipping) for the pair of fronts, with their C83 facing (short straight grooves).  There are five facings to choose from:

F2000 - long curved grooves
Sport Japan - drilled and grooved
C83 - Short straight grooves
D95 - drilled only
ZERO - plain braking surface

The 3rd cat delete pipe is the one with the flange thats clamped to the lhs of the photo and is included.

For what it’s worth I can recommend the Lotus Sports Exhaust above.  It’s obviously no 2bular but it’s made by Janspeed and was a costly upgrade back in the day.   I have on mine and I think it sounds superb, especially compared to the very quiet standard Evora exhaust…

I had one on mine, with the 2bular headers and a 200cel sports cat and I can confirm what Dave says, sounds superb!

The cost of the parts for the suspension rework was about £1000 which includes all the hardware, paints, toe links, drop links, ARB bushes, brake pipes, h/brake cables t/r ends  plus any other parts as listed above.

My calipers were black from new. They looked ok but once refreshed the other parts they looked dull, hence why I repainted the calipers. The Evora new with a sports pack was with black calipers then on the later ones had the colour choice.

Done a lot of research on forums, websites, YouTube and speaking to K&N, Ram Air and ITG etc regarding engine air intake filter systems as I was thinking of the BOE kit to replace the standard current system on the Evora NA but the price was expensive Vs the gains. So I have just completed my own system using a Ram Air sponge filter a new MAFF tube, joiner and hose. The results are fantastic with the air intake suction whoosh noise but the best is the extra performance when you hit that sports button and having a 2bular exhaust the sounds are excellent. The other good bit is all done for less than £100. Spent a lot of time testing and trying different systems and designs and now happy with what I have achieved.

Very clever but for spanner like me I went for BOE kit 

had it installed this week so still running it in and seems likely for another 200 miles to be sure

eish I had done it couple years ago as the £500 plus would be returned but in couple years it will still be 

 get a lovely smoothness and increased growl given I have a upgraded lotus sports exhaust maybe with other Larini types it make even lovely sound however I am happy with what I got

Hi Bob, very intriguing!!! When you say its your own system, can you clarify what you had to buy and what you had to presumably make yourself? I don't really understand these things but did it need anything else, i.e. messing with the ECU etc...? Looks great by the way...

The Ramair filter  - CC-296-UNI, 

1 X ASH silicon 76mm 90 degree hose for the filter fitted with a cut 30mm long 76mm dia alloy tube to aid the hose to fit in the filter and helps clamp the filter to the hose. I had to shorten the hose to allow the elbow to get as close to to the filter.

1 x ASH silicon 76mm 45 degree hose and 1 x 76mm dia 80mm long alloy joiner to fit to the other end of the filter hose. Had to  remove about 30mm off the 45degree hose end to allow a small space between the two hoses to fit a clamp. (explain why shortly)

1 X 80mm dia X 100mm long hose for the fitment to the throttle inlet and the Maf alloy pipe. I put a hole at 40mm and fitted a small tube to allow for the engines breather hose to be fitted. You might get this off Ebay hose seller but I have my own hose and fitting.

1 x 76mm dia x 120mm long alloy maf sensor fitting pipe, for a Toyota/Mazda - 49mm maf fixing screw distance with 26mm hole for the maf sensor to be fitted.

I made my own clap and bracket to fit and hold the unit using one of the original old air filter box mounting bracket holes. The clamp was fixed in the spacing where the two hoses (45 & 90) are joined.

Removed the old vacuum hoses off the valve to the old filter box and cabled the valve to a bracket nr the engine as I don't have a valved exhaust, and fitted a small plug to the vac hose removal on the plastic inlet manifold.

As an engineer there was a lot of thought and time went in this with air filter types Vs flow volumes, temperatures, maf sensor activation Vs position, but the next one would be a walk in the park.
