Greetings;   I'm  about to remove a, Renault engine from an S2. It seems a very simple  task, unlike a modern machine, but I was wondering about the inner axle "taper roll pins". I understand there design and function - I am just wondering what would be a proper and available (drift) tool for the purpose of R+R ? Also, is there something that could inadvertently go wrong ?

Get a set like this & use the one that's a little smaller than the roll pin.

Make sure you don't get the drift stuck. That would qualify as something going seriously wrong. 😉 If you hold the drift while driving it through, you will feel it should it start to bind, so can remove and continue with a smaller one. A bit fiddly, but not really difficult.
