The twisted pair is only used to get a better signal and limit interference. It is not strictly necessary, so if the car is running fine, just leave it like that.

I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them.

Thanks Filip, I looked that up. I was wondering if they were all not twisted or just mine. How do I know it wouldn’t run better twisted, not a question ,as I am sure I wouldn’t notice the difference

I'd need to check mine, but seem to remember part being twisted and the rest not.

Rest assured, you would know if there was a problem. The electronic ignition needs several signals for every revolution to determine which plugs to fire. These come from the flywheel sensor (also called crankshaft position sensor), generated by slots or teeth on the flywheel. 6+1 slots in the case of the Esprit.

If the signal from the sensor is too weak or absent, one or more cilinders wont fire, so you'll feel a misfire. As long as the ignition module can determine the position, everything is fine. It's not a case of running better, a plug will fire or it wont.

If the misfires are frequent enough, you can also notice the tachometer dropping, as the rpm signal is provided by the same sensor so will also be low or absent. But you'll feel that before you see it.

I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them.
