Received my Lotus Certificate of Provenance

I just received my Lotus Certificate of Provenance.  Excellent package with some interesting information.  When I purchased the Excel SE, it was advertised as a 1988, but is in fact a 1987.  It is the only white with full black leather Excel SE made in LHD during the 1987 production.

Probably built in 1987 but first registered in 1988, which is why it's considered a 1988. Our DIV (the equivalent of UK DVLA) normally only looks at first registration, not date of production. Which can lead to problems when it comes to emissions and mandatory equipment if a car was not registered for a few years after build and rules changed.

Or likely produced prior to September 87, making it 87MY (model year) but registered 1988. 

Generally the model year runs September to September for all manufacturers as they modify production lines in August when the factories often shutdown for the summer break.

From correspondence with the last owner, the car was indeed a demonstrator for the dealership.

My Esprit was built Dec 87, but is registered as an 88

Dec 87 build is a MY88. Model year and date registered are not the same thing, obvs. 

Some 340R were not registered until 2001, 2002 or even later but all are MY20, built between Jan 20 and approx Jun 20.
