Wider tyres....typical of designers drawings, cars look better with bigger tyres and wheels.....but for road use, skinny tyres are much more fun and better feel.

Insurers won't repair stuff like headlamps and seem to insist on new bumpers etc....instead of repairing. Owners will usually find a way to get around any parts issue, with the help of genuinely enthusiastic specialists. Justin -

F1 ain't all about 1st place......but don't let ACBC hear. So happy for Mclaren. They've had a rotten time, especially the road car division. And quite a comeback from the start of last season.

It's a con. Now the government subsidies have finished in most territories, low and behold, manufacturers prices drop. Yet again, taxpayers have filled the bank accounts of the car companies. It happened with diesel, twice, and now electric. Justin

You'll (nearly) always get a better price selling a Lotus privately. I can't think of an example were that wouldn't be the case. Not many dealers will want a 10 year old Evora in p/ex, if any. They'll trade it straight out again. P/ex is there for folk who: are too lazy to sell privately/are too scared to sell privately/are time-poor (read 'can't be bothered')/company is paying/need out fast/who can afford it. P/ex is fabulous for dealers, they make more money otherwise they wouldn't do it. They make that money from you as the p/ex customer, it isn't magic by a Money Tree Car Fairy. Justin -

Newey: full respect to him, incredible man and so sad Williams didn't offer him equity all those years ago - how different that story would have been. However, reading and watching the coverage lately, it's seems Newey is the greatest Grand Prix designer ever. Newey has been at it for 30+ years and won 13 driver titles/12 constructors as a designer. Colin Chapman was active in F1 for circa 20 years as a designer, team principal and team owner. He won 13 titles in an era when reliability made serial winning very tricky. Chapman is surely the greatest ever in F1. He may or may not be the most successful in any one discipline but in terms of overall input to multiple high pressure tasks, no-one can touch him. Justin

Good. It's a decent job in 2024 and should not adversely affect your son's health. You couldn't say that about the same job 30 or more years ago. Health and safety at work may have tedious and irritating consequences for the customer (and probably some staff) but in the main is acceptable progress in a civilised society.

But they probably died younger than they should or lived in pain from various injuries. Would you want your kids to work the bins in 1950 or 2024? Think about both sides of any debate.

Cycle lanes: if there is a dedicated cycle lane, a car will pass the cyclist without any attempt to move further away from the peddler. The line differentiating the cycle lane from the car lane is clear and everyone gets on with their day. The car will usually be within 1 meter of the cycle lane, perhaps less at times. If there is no cycle lane, the Highway Code stipulates the motorist must give 1.5 meters width to any cyclists. That's at 30mph or less, over 30mph you must give more room. This rule is paralysing the UK roads, particularly country roads were it is near impossible to comply. Either you break the rule or sit at 10mph or less for miles. If a cyclist is safe in a dedicated lane with cars at 1 meter or less, why are they vulnerable elsewhere? Justin

I wouldn't worry about any of the big bits (engine, transmission, chassis, suspension etc). The ancillaries are all reliable too but will fail with age. Who knows when but they'll add up over an extended period. Over a 2 to 3 year time frame with 6000 miles pa, I'd budget £2,500 per annum on servicing and maintenance on a higher mileage older Evora. The failure rate of components will significantly reduce if the car lives inside when unused and if it has previously been regularly garaged. If the car has lived outside on the coast for many years, you're more likely to see failure of items like radiator and exhaust. To summarise: it's not an exact science. Justin -

Yawn alert 'cos I keep making this point. Folk continually compare Evora to Emira but they are different segments. Jaguar/Aston reference was deliberate stretching of the point to emphasise the difference. Justin PS. 1968 Jag XJ6 is the same chassis as 1990s DB7. The DB7 is on the XJ-S platform, that being a shortened (hence S) XJ6 chassis. -

Yawn alert..............and Evora is +2. Emira is not an Evora replacement, shared bits or not. A Jaguar XJ6 is not comparable to Aston DB7 but they share a (modified) platform....yes, really, look it up. Justin -
Can Geely remember Lotus wasn't founded at Hethel in 1948.... a recent PR made this howler. Justin
