Very strange advert.

Last taxed 1992 - So Owned since 1990, rebuilt 1990-91. Driven for a year, then taken off road. In demand as a James Bond car, but last show 13 years ago.

There is an Excel in the 2nd picture - B361 WEV - last taxed 1999 :(

It will be interesting to see where prices go from here. My best guess is that there there will be a levelling off but a steady rise is more likely than a fall from current prices.

I still think Esprits are great value if you can find a good one. There is talk of some cars already levelling off and many think the Testarossa and 308 which have shown stellar price rises in the past two years have already started to fall back slightly from their peak last summer. Some other cars continue to take great strides, the Mitsubishi Evo TME has finally caught up with Escort Cosworth and Lancia Integrale prices. A couple of dealers are chancing their arm at £49k. Top dollar last year was £30k, £20k in 2015. Integrale prices should in theory push up thanks to the exchange rate plus strong demand in Europe but in my experience everything went up £5k last summer but cars are slow to sell over £50k unless they are really special examples. I'm only mentioning two cars I'm watching because I own them. But a nice S4S is looking stunning value at £35k when an Escort Cosworth is £55k. I know which one I'd rather own, and drive.

like the stipulation that it has no "crap" Tartan

If it had been re trimmed in "crap" tartan and the engine bay had been left alone it would be worth considerably more,

still not £100K mind !!.

Interesting to see in which Continental countries ESPRIT's (all types) are offered for sale..........quoted from the largest Continental e-market.........Auto Scout 24...

It is remarkable that over 1/3 of the units are located in Italy.....on the basis of that Italy seems to be the most "Esprit populated country" on the Continent.....with an astonishing low number of Esprit's for especially Germany and also France.

A total of 44 Esprits:

Italy....................16.....62 mill. inhabitants

Germany..............8.....81 mill

France.................4.....76 mill

Belgium...............4.....11 mill

Netherlands........4.....17 mill

Spain..................2.....49 mill

Czech Republic..2.....11 mill

Austria................2.......9 mill

Switzerland........1........8 mill

Sweden..............1.....10 mill

Also, it seams that the prices of Esprit's outside of the UK is considerable higher, certainly the "mega money" ones at least.

  • 3 weeks later...

Btw...the nr. of Esprit's offered at Auto Scout 24 on 03 Jan '17 was 44 units........it is decreased now to 36 units......8 units have left sold/unsold...

Since Auto Scout 24 is for free and after 126 days the free advertisement expires or can be renewed for another 126 days etc, etc, by one mouseclick it would be interesting to know how much Esprit's are sold or withdrawn.........for the latter action is no need hence the free renewal.........of course it could be that people withdraw their Esprit for a couple of months to make a fresh start again early spring.......

Trade sellers will not move and inch no matter what time of year or weather.  Look at Johns yellow one, Just under 13k the trader payed John, Listed at 24k, he hopes to make 11k profit without doing anything, you would of thought he would of dropped it when you consider how much profit was in that car for him.

Projects or private are the only chance of getting a bargain, well sort of bargain this time of year with some folks freeing up some money after Christmas or just coming round to the fact that certain projects will never get done. So they sell them on.

Trouble is - at the price he is asking for johns old one - there are two red ones cheaper by a decent wedge.

Just sheer greed with Johns Car and also an unrealistic price,  Metallics always go for more money imo,  I would change the colour of yours Barry but that is me.   Essex blue is a nice colour.  Lot of extra work envolved for a full colour change though.
