Auto Braking

I think for me, now it's happened twice, it's just how bloody scary how it slams everything on, it's not controlled....but like hitting a wall. It also seems to read the scene ahead, seconds before anything is to happen, so almost presuming an event that never occurs.

I'm slowly but surely switching off all the safety features as part of my pre-flight checks.

Hear hear.  Am about to head off now and will have a Boeing style checklist!

Is this mandatory in law and, therefore, could be off by default?

I also previously had an e-niro and that only did an emergency stop once, when a car pulling across into a driveway stopped with its arse in the road.

The Eletre has thrown an emergency stop twice on me. Both times when pulling on to the same roundabout, just after upgrading to 1.3

Hasn't done it since though...

MG 4 owners have similar issues. Certainly puts one off buying a modern hi tech car.

@Nickg333 Different car, but the same safety assist system I presume.

My Skoda (pronounced Schkoda) Fabia has Lane Keep Assist. The Owners Manual clearly states that the LKA system will intervene if you do not use the indicator to change lane. So even if there are no other cars, the LKA system will try to drag you back into the lane if you don't indicate. The system is not always on. I presume that it sometimes has not been able to get enough data points to be able to safely initiate the system. I have noticed that it sometimes is on even when the adaptive cruise control is not on. Rare though.

The one bug with the adaptive cruise control is when a car is in the lane beside you, but is in front of you and then indicates and slows to turn, the brakes intervene and begin to brake the car. If you know it is coming, you can easily override it. Just need to be aware I suppose.

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

Opinions are like armpits. Everyone has them, some just stink more than others.

I remember having my first driving lesson (which I assume is still taught?) Mirror, Signal, Mirror then if safe manoeuvre. If you haven’t got time to do what is right you are probably going to fast. Yes even when changing lanes or overtaking stationary/slow moving vehicles.

That's great to hear and somewhat reassuring, fingers crossed they sort it!

A useful feature for things like this would be that if ever the car does intervene and do something as drastic as emergency, the car could store the previous 5 or 10 seconds of video feed from all the cameras for later download / review, possibly with an the option to upload it to Lotus so they can properly review instances of false positives.

An update on this issue - I haven't experienced a single case of Auto Braking after the first 5 days of driving my Eletre.
I can only assume there is some initial learning/calibration going on. This might also happen after an OS update.
(I know that Tesla Autopilot can take 50 miles to calibrate, more on the original Model S).

It's a bit strange that this isn't documented somewhere.

I still get the loud, red flashing bar warning occasionally.
More annoying is the warning alarm that replaces the indicator sound while cars pass you in the busy next lane as you are waiting to be allowed out.
