Radiator Fans - Constantly On

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

i have an 87 HC Turbo and the radiator fans run constantly from cold - Can anyone point me in the direction of a fix?

My thoughts were that it is either the otter switch or a relay, but as has been proved in the past, I have little technical knowledge!

all best,

Will

Does your HC have air conditioning?  If not that reduces the possible causes.

Do you have the Service Notes (shop manual)?  That will help identify any control relays or switches. (IE, the Otter Switch on the aluminium J-pipe, RF of the engine bay)

This is the diagram you need:image.png

Make sure the AC is off. Next, the Otter switch is the most likely place to start. It's not too hard to unplug the , if that stops the fans, you have found the culprit.

If it doesn't, try removing the fuse or relay for the AC, just to make sure that's not on all the time. Finally I'd check the relay, as they can fail in the on position.

I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying a multiple Lotus is not one of them.

A holiday is always a good excuse.

Just let us know when you find the cause and solution, that can always be helpful for other owners in future. 😉
