I use Laithwaites - order over the phone, delivered to your door. They supply in boxes of 6 or 12 bottles and have a fairly extensive range. I can bring a catalogue next weekend if you like.

Was a member of Laithwaites for three or four years. Received some really nice wines but also some fairly average stuff too. Eventually concluded I preferred doing my own thing via Majestic, a couple of local importers, the odd supermarket special offer, not too mention an occasional cross channel raid.

As far as other wine clubs are concerned I've heard some extremely favourable reports on Averys and The Wine Society.

That would be great, thanks Dave. How do you find it compared to normal wine buying?

I did virgin wines for a while, the wines were ok, nothing I would pay top dollar for and with them you didnt. You can hunt out just as good bogoffs in tescos etc for the same money. They deliver the wine with no hassles, dropped it round the back of the house and have a policy if its nicked they send you another one.

Once I was bored of their wines they bombard you a lot be email phone snail mail etc to come back and buy again. In the end I thought it made me drink more

Been in the wine trade all my working life and I've come across many wierd and wonderful things vinous. Wine is a very personal thing so it's all about what you like when you like it. People get way to tied up about what's good and what's bad...don't listen to them.

Whilst on the subject, I cam e across this little gem and wondered if it would be of interest to have a more relevent logo on the bottle.

And this is a choice little number I discovered a while back...

Tres cool Pete! Esprit wine must go down smoothly with class and sophistication and corner exceptionally well!

I like to try lots of different wines, I'm not in a position to be able to discern the finer points so variety keeps me happy. The wine club send out a 'discovery' box once a month, this sounds alright to me!

Elemental Reserva Cachapoal Cabernet Sauvignon Syrah 2005

Tokerau Mulchen Sauvignon Blanc 2007

Capcanes Mas del Ponts 2005

Elemental Reserva Casablanca Chardonnay Marsanne 2006

Pasion Winemakers Limited Release Colchagua Syrah 2006

Terre des Anges Organic Sauvignon Blanc 2006

Stonehouse Barossa Valley Single Vineyard Grenache Mataro 2004

Vashon Estate South Australian Chardonnay 2006

I'm half way through a bottle of the Tokerau and I must say it does taste good :)

I'm no wine buff :)

Whenever we have people round, you can figure the next day

we will have some bottles of white and red in (mostly white).

I open a bottle, have two or three glasses.

About mid week i notice the bottle in the fridge.

Finish it off.

OK, it tastes a bit worse than before but it's ok.

Wine to me is a bit like cider, should i drink it

or should i put it on my chips with some salt?

Real ale is the way to go. brewed with the whole

multitude of different flavours and ingredients, but

lacking in the sub freemasony nonsense, down right

snobbery and generic porsche boxter man/boy/ladyness

of any wine bar in any town anywhere.

I'm finishing my evening with a shot of captian morgans!

:)

PS ale fans, The Badger brewery currently has a seasonal

ale called 'Blandford fly', It's brewed with ginger and tastes

like a malty gingerbread, it's just ace, try one while you can.

Or if you wanna go cheapy Valpolicela is Okay.

Mostly I like italians (like the wife) but other fave is Chateau Neuf Du Pape!!

I hasten to add I know nothing about wine, I just know what I like the taste of!!

If we are on beer then I'm afraid I'm not keen on Real ales or Bitters, more of a Lager man, Can't mess with Peroni.................after all Lager is chemicals isn't it and you can always rely on those!!!!

May i recommend the Sunday Times Rioja Club! I only drink rioja as everything else just tastes weak :innocent: I am a big fan of San Lorenzo reserva which is on special offer in tescos at the moment half price at about a fiver, drink it just over room temperature for best results Faustino I is a nice bottle too.

For a good quaffing wine try Torla (also available a Tesco at
