  1. I have searched for this, but couldn't find it. Sorry if it's a repost.
  2. In case you are not familiar with the term, the BOFH is a [computer / network / system] admin type person who.....does not respond well to authority.....goes through bosses with alarming speed.....erm.... Probably best you just read the post - where the idea of an autonomous Lotus is mentioned. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/12/04/bofh_2015_episode_18/
  3. Now this is where I am in a bit of a pickle, I don't like this sort of thing happening, but I'm not sure if the UK wanting out of Europe isn't a little bit like Scotland wanting out of the UK. Prior to the Scottish referendum, I was all for the 'Get out of Europe free' card. Now, I'm just not sure.
  4. I thought I'd give it a try without announcing it....didn't even announce it to my wife. However, does it count if wine has been used in the cooking?
  5. Easy way to fix that - offer to chop her legs off..... OK, you're right, that's a little extreme Welcome to TLF
  6. Happy birthday LEF TLF
  7. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01m14jh Edit: Sorry, hit post a little too quickly. Alex Salmond visits Border Control. Enjoy
  8. Cool, that's a really nice village. We were looking at houses there once upon a time, but realised that it would only make it more awkward getting the kids to school. I drove through there this morning avoiding the snafu that was the M1/A45/A508.
  9. To be fair, I was looking forward to seeing the new Esprit but I still don't think I would consider buying of the current line up. Obviously it doesn't mean I don't want a Lotus, just not the offerings that are available today (unless I've missed a major announcement)
  10. Even dear old Nessie seems to be jumping ship http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2752029/Another-blow-No-vote-First-banks-threaten-flee-independent-Scotland-appears-Loch-Ness-Monster-relocated-south-border.html
  11. I've just been looking through some of my old posts and can't believe that it's over 5 years since I had my first Esprit experience (thanks again Bibs, back in April or May 2009!), and even ran an event in Northampton (thanks to GasManGT3 for turning up, again, May 2009). Actually, the real reason I was looking through the posts was that I was trying to see if there was anyone on here that is near to my home. Just because. I know there are a good number of Lotus owners around about, as I've seen them on other people's drives, in pub car parks, etc, however, I keep forgetting that this isn't an Esprit only site (hence I forget to post in spotted unless it's an Esprit). So, why the post? Erm, dunno. If you're in the Northampton area, give me a shout. If you are the owner of the Elise that lives near Landcross Drive, I might pop round and ask for a ride.
  12. Wow, what an awesome thread. It's the only technical one I've read through in all my years on here. As you can see, I've been a member here for years and always wanted to get myself an Esprit but, apart from the fact that I had insufficient money, I was always a little worried about the ABS on my preferred model, the S4s. With all the hard work you've put in, I'll be confident when I start looking at cars again. I just wish I'd been able to buy one a few years ago. On a different note, does PM have a history of using (and profiting from) other people's ideas like they have the one from the start of this thread? It's one of the few names I recognise as having a lot of Esprit knowledge. Actually, don't answer that last question, I'll just keep an eye on the situation myself. Thanks again to Darren for all the hard work you've put in.
  13. I'm most definitely NOT an economist, but it seems to me as if even the possibility of a yes vote has caused damage to sterling and the UK financial market. I'd prefer for the Scottish voters to stick with the UK, but if they chose to leave the union, I can see no reason for the rUK to help 'them' if it won't help 'us'. This is said as a half Scot who is married to another half Scot. No vote for us though, we were both born in London.
  14. I would have gone too as I'm based in Northampton, but it's my cousin's wedding that day. I don't think I'll manage it Edit: to get the right emoticon
  15. *grins* I don't know if it's self loathing so much as having tried (and failed) to live up to our own standard of 'good'. Either way, I prefer to be told how it appears to be (to me), and how to sort it out. Another way of viewing it could be, 1 You're born - you start off with a clean slate 2 You live - you decide that you don't want anything to do with God 3 You die - God says, OK, you can be separated from me forever then. BTW, I hope I didn't come across as saying that the people who are judgemental are not really Christians Another BTW, glad to hear that no donations are required, I don't have none to give
  16. I'm a little behind on things (I don't get on here often enough), but would like to add my thoughts 'from the other side of the fence' I am a Christian, go to church, run the youth work at our church, etc, etc, but I'm only going to try and answer Kimbers point right now as there is sooooooo much in this thread. The thing is, each and every Christian is at a different stage in their journey (to steal a phrase from popular UK TV). We are none of us perfect, in fact as a Christian, I am effectively saying that I recognise that I am a sinner (do things that offend God) and can do nothing about it, but that Jesus has paid the penalty for my sins, saving me from the punishment that should really have come my way. Couple that with the fact of peer pressure and you have a number of people who claim to be Christians. In the past in the UK, that meant you had almost everyone going to church on a Sunday and sitting there for an hour or so, and they would claim that they were Christians. Only a few had the courage to stand up and say they weren't. There has been a shift in recent years and more people are saying that they either don't believe there is a God or that they aren't sure. Either way, they don't make any claim to be a Christian. One common thing that is quoted is that they can't reconcile their expectation that Christians are supposed to be 'good' people, and the evil actions of some who claim to be Christian. I think what is happening in the US at the minute (from an completely outsiders view) is closer to how things used to be in the UK, ie, a lot of people who claim to be Christians are simply those who go to church sometimes and see themselves as 'good people', or possibly more accurately, 'better people because they go to church'. When they encounter people who stand up and say they are atheists, they see them as 'bad people' and think that they have the moral high ground, allowing them to pass judgment. In a more direct answer to Kimbers post, yes, Christians are supposed to be above that sort of thing, however we are not perfect. We still make mistakes. I hope that makes sense.
  17. Spotted on the A5 this morning between the Pottersbury turn and my turn for Milton Keynes North where you continued down the A5. Thanks for leaving enough space that I could nip into it.
  18. Noticed this in Northampton as I was travelling along the A45. The truck was heading from M1 junction 15 towards the Queen Eleanor interchange. No piccies or anything as I was driving myself. It has reminded me of my longing for an Esprit, even if it is still a bit of a pipe dream.
  19. I've just read about the Rimac Concept One electric sports car that has been shown at Frankfurt and thought you might like to read from their own website. It boasts a 0-60 time of 2.8 seconds, top speed of 305kph (about 190 mph) and a range of 600 km (about 370 miles). The bit I like the best is that he got started on it when his BMW engine blew up. http://www.rimac-automobili.com/ Has anyone here ever played with electric motors, either retro-fitting them to an engine-less car, or building something from scratch?
  20. Awesome news! Congratulations.
  21. I had to share this link with you - apparently, even parking spaces are made in China. Clicky. Enjoy. Sorry, I'm going through a backlog of my 'daily' funnies and have found this too.... Clicky
