Interesting Wayne,

I Assume you have the 'Discovery of the Titanic' Book by ballard and Marchall?,

And the 'Discovery of the Bismark' by the same. I also have a later book from a

Cameron expedition, along with it's accompanying DVD. On top of this i have about

14 hours of documentary and undersea footage of the Titanic, including Camerons

last dive when he reached the turkish baths. Recently i aquired a facinating book

that contains nothing but newspaper pages from the time. Shockingly some of the

april 15th papers claimed 'Ship sinking, all believed safe on carpathia', only to be

followed the next day with '1400 feared lost'...

:(

Bit off topic I know but the sinking of the Hood gets me.... 3 survivors. How would you feel being one of three :w00t:

Read a lot about the Hood, Prince of Wales vs Bismark, Prinz Eugen (sp?)

Although it was only a short engagement it was one of the last major Battleship -> Battleship punch ups before carriers / aircraft really took over.

The survivors are pretty key becuase of their rank and position on the ship, the chap near the bridge (cant remember the names) who survived give a good account of the captain when he knew the ship was done for and the crew with it, he didn't bother issuing the abandon ship command, he was just degected and resigned to the fact he just lost the flagship.

3 of 1,400 crew ? Pretty damn lucky !

Not only to survice that but also the water temperature.

Yes Paul, I have read those books. My curiousity about the Titanic started ages ago when I read Clive Cusslers book " Raise the Titanic" (later made into a movie) , a fictional adventure story about raising the wreck of the titanic in one piece(which untill Ballard found the wreck was in two pieces some believed might be possible.)

The sinking was a tragedy, but in my opinion not as tragic as the scrapping of her sister ship the Olympic after all what that particular ship had gone through in the 1st. WW. Luckily some of her beautiful interiors survive as much of it was purchased and built into hotels and suchlikes.

The wreck of the Titanic does posess an erie beauty all of its own though (have you seen the imax film Titannica?)!

Jon,

Think the guys name was Briggs (my dad has the book at the moment) he was on the compass

platform and i think was made an MBE/CBE or something like that.

Wayne,

Yes i agree it's sad the Olympic was scrapped, but then had it not been for the titanic loss then those

three ships would not have had the fame they have today and no-one would care. The brittanic lies on

it's side as a sunk wartime hospital ship, and i've no doubt the same fate (or survival and scrapping)

would have been in store for titanic had she not sunk. For me, the saddest thing is the Olympic made

some 500 atlantic crossing without incident before being scrapped...

I'm a semi-professional scenario paintballer at the weekends, I've been known to perform onstage with the Goldie Lookin' Chain and I also run their fanclub of over 8,400, I enjoy photography (it's my new hobby since I moved on from RC helicopters which I was good at flying but poor at landing!), I went surfing once, I like cars (fast ones with a monogrammed badge on the nose), I enjoy computer games, socialising as often as possible, being helpful where I can be and being a father to my kids and a boyfriend to my missus. Other than that, I've got loads of free time!

Aside from car shows and cars in general, I like sitting at the beach, hiking in the out doors, and I enjoy my old gun collection. Not too old, WWI and WWII mostly. I also really enjoy the telescope and the sky, but it is very seasonal here as winter in the only time the sky is good for it. Tops is hanging out with my daughter (but that usually leads to car stuff).
