I've used Steve at SJ for parts and have found him very helpful. He's not one of these

guys who wants to chuck down his tools and have a 20 min chat about your car though,

and if you are ordering some part, he'll ask what the symptoms are and in my case he

could (accurately) tell you that you are wrong about the cause and need something else.

Personally i like the abrupt and to the point approach as it closely resembles my own

working enviroment. The "have you any idea how f**king noisy this will be?" when i ordered

a de-cat unsilenced exhaust was an honesty i welcomed, but some would be shocked by.

:)

When i called to buy an ECU ("what the **** do you want one of them for?") he was no way

going to sell me one until i had explored other options. This saved me (and lost him) a lot

of money. I really don't mind being told how it is, especially by someone that knows.

I can see why some might be a bit wary of the manner, but i'm cool with it.

:)

I have used SJ numerous times.Steve comes across straightforward, but he has alway sbeen more than helpful when I have needed it.

I tend to prefer PNM as Pete knows me now and just bends over backwards. He also stock s abit more than Steve.

I think the facts are that Steve's alright and will sort you out with parts and knowledge................... Until something goes wrong, if you need to return something that might cost him a few quid, then his abrupt manner only gets worse, never mind the fact that if sorted out the mistakes with the same gusto as he sells the parts then some of us would be more than happy to use him again.

Steve called me today. He doesn't have a header tank to hand (can get one made) but quickly and efficiently took the rest of my order and said he'd try and get it posted today. So, no complaints from me.

Meanwhile, superdave has been a hero and is helping me source a header tank. What a guy!

Hi all,

I don't do made to measure carb turbo header tanks until a few minutes ago when I have just drawn up an 88-93 N/A and carb turbo header tank. It's already gone off for pricing to two companies. Both companies are UK based and can produce one in matter of couple of weeks.

I had gone down stainless steel route which I may still do with older models like S1/S2/S3. I have drawn up both S2 and S3 models and had a stainless steel one made already but the company is very slow. i cannot rush them, jus thave to wait until one is ready.

As for Stevens, I think owner will want alloy for a race look. these may be able to be powder coated in balck but I'll have to see.

As soon as I have prices back I will get back to you

Won't be needing one for a fair while as I've got 2 x prand new ones, 1 I bought in the sale and the other came as part of the cooling kit....

Maybe one day, but I'm sure they will be invaluable to others...

OK - Firstly - Steve at SJs...

Top notch guy - tells it like it is and is a font of knowledge...

Had used him on several occasions for parts and then bit the bullet and invested around

Have got to agree with Iain. I have nothing but praise for Steve at SJ.

I have bought numerous parts from him and 99% of the time they have turned up as I ordered - one time they sent 4 outer bearing oil seals instead of 2 inner and 2 outer. He was quick to rectify the prob.

I have also phoned him for advice which he has given to me (for free obviously).

Hi,

I've dealt with SJ on several occasions and have had no problems, also when asking for advice on the phone. I always try them first before going to anywhere else.

Recommend them. If I stopped going to every retail outlet because of a disgruntled customer, I would never be able to shop! We all have run ins with traders at sometime in our lives, but it has to be bad before I would stop shopping with some of them.

I'll give SJ a plug too, I'm the other side of the world, I send an order in Excel, they invoice me back, within minutes, including freight, I transfer the founds and it's here in a week, all well packed, no mistakes, they are my saving grace, I can't get parts out of Melborne any faster than that.

The prices are good, I'd like him to use Skype, and camera, that would be cool, then I could point the camera my end and say "I want one of them things".

Long live SJ, they make owning a Lotus over here feesable.

When I was over there last year, one of the Esprits I looked at had had a lot of work done on it and I mean almost 4,000 by a well known Lotus specialist, the reason I didn't buy it was that workmanship was to say the least, unimpressive of what I could see, so I didn't want to know about what I couldn't. There are specialists and there specialists.

Roger  SJ one more time!

I've dealt with SJ more than a time and he was always helpful and kind.

I don't know other lotus specialist with such a wide catalogue.

I have ask infos and prices to other well know specialists and suppliers and I'm still waiting the answers..... (Troy, please tell me somethings... :) )

Anyway, top company for the parts, but for the knowledge/tips/advice about Esprit I have a better source...

DAVE I need a stainless steel header tank...pleaseeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

I have been getting parts from SJ over the years and have absolutely no complaints. Excellent catalog and on the rare occasion that I had to speak with him the information provided was always spot on.

Only thing hurting now is the value of the dollar to the pound. Once that bit of nastiness has been resolved I'll be back to browsing though the cat.

I would be happy to recomend them for bits for anyones Esprit.

The only error I've had when dealing with SJ has been them only including one chamfered washer instead of two when doing the S3, it didn't matter though, as I used an old one. I left a voice mail when the bits arrived Sat lunch time (only ordered Friday, I think), and I was called back Monday Morning by Steve to see if I still needed the second one sent, which I hadn't been invoiced for.

It's not all about getting it right, it's about what happens when it goes wrong, and SJ / Steve proved they're willing and able to help when that happens.
