Esprit SE missfire at high revs

Recommended Posts

Hi There,

Thought I might throw this one out to the forum to see if anyone has any ideas!

I have just ordered the freescan package but wondered if any of you tech gurus might be able to throw light on this:

My esprit SE has developed suddenly a missfire at high revs and high load. I happened on a hot day, with a hot engine at high altitude (1800m). It continued as I decended from altitude and is there from cold now.

I have a spare new coil pack which I fitter and has not solved the problem.

I am not loosing boost according to the guage so I ruled out the actuator solenoid.

I did find that the exhaust gas sensor was loose in the exhaust, I tightened it and went for a ten min drive and it did not solve the problem.

Any ideas please?

Adam,

I suggest to get a reading and record the logs with a freescan. I am sure there are many experts on the forum to help out with the reading and give you some advice.

The fault you have maybe casued by many items on the car. Freescan will help you a lot by testing some of those.

Yep. Agree with Roger.

Either fuel pressure, or it's running lean because of the altitude. The barometric pressure sensor may be faulty, or alternatively..dirty injectors. (rare these days).

Faulty lambda probe?

You do need that freescan log to see what's going on.

It definitely sounds fuel related rather than ignition related.

Agree with Phil, before you start forking out try the simply FREE stuff first. Have a look at the plugs if in pretty good condition, they may just need re gapping, clean them up wire brush if have to and measure gap accurately, retest car and go from there.
