Hello everyone!

Name is Vern. I'm from ohio (usa). I am the proud owner of a 1970 Lotus Europa. The car has 40,505miles. It has been sitting in my grandfather's garage for 18years and has not moved. Its been over 12years since the last time it was started. Motor turns over and I can wait to get it up and running. If anyone has a link for a place for parts please post them.

Thanks for looking!

Welcome Vern, there are a few of us on this side of the pond and a few of us who were formerly English. In regards to bits there are various places on both sides of the Atlantic that can cater to your needs and quite a few Europa owners around. Find your local Lotus club and also join Lotus Ltd in the US as they keep everyone connected as well as membership to this excellent forum of knowledgeable chaps.

Wow, I was expecting you to be telling us that you'd acquired one of the modern breed of Europas.

A 1970 model sounds like a fascinating project. If it's not been started for 12 years and not turned a wheel for 18 years I'm sure you'll have lots to do.

Take your time, keep us posted and best of luck

Hi Vern & welcome to the forum.

As has already been requested.....photos,photos,photos.....please!

for parts try

www.rdent.com

www.jaeparts.com

both of the above are in the US

or in the UK

www.sjsportscars.co.uk

getting parts form the UK can be cost effective as long as it's a small part.

I've just located the original owner of my S1 and he tells me he had an Europa before trading it in for the Esprit. Says he missed the 'rawness' of the Europa at times and that that Europa gave a more 'spirited' drive. He kept the Esprit for 18 years so I guess he found something he liked about it.

Good luck with the car.

Gavin

When I had my Esprit I got excellent service and advise from JAE near Santa Barbara. Parts normally arrived in a couple of days.

I also used Dave Bean who is also based in California. Sorted me out with a new water pump and a wiper motor, both of which were tucked away in their stores and generally unavailable.

To the east is R.D. Enterprises.

Hi Vern and welcome. I've met a few Europa owners over here through Club Lotus events and their quarterly magazine has a number of advertisers specialising in the older cars. They also publish a directory of Club-recognised specialists broken down by specialism (eg paint, fibreglass work) but IIRC it is UK only - still might help? Info at http://www.club-lotus.co.uk/.

To whet everyone's apppetite, here are a couple of nice pics - one an immaculate example in Stratton's showroom recently and another a beautiful Gold Leaf car being tracked in spirited fashion at Goodwood Circuit:

I can probably dig out email addresses for a few UK Europa owners if that would help.

Hi Vern and welcome to the forum!

As said, post up some pics. I've always liked the Europa (almost bought one in 1976) and will probably have one somewhere down the road.

I've sent you a PM with some info.

Cheers,

Jim

Thanks everyone for such a warm welcome! Jim thanks for the pm and everyone else that has posted. I will have some pics up tomorrow. I really think you guys will be surprised how clean the car is....

Things I know thus far about the car:

I have no spark.... (nothing coming out of coil)

Fuel pump turns on but is very loud and not pumping fuel.... (aftermarket pump I believe)

Has aftermarket Webber carb.

Frt. Calipers are leaking.

Both doors need new hings.

Welcome from California, and as a few others have mentioned JAE Parts in Santa Barbara are a great source, and I believe full TLF members get a discount there!

Wow Vern that's awesome. It looks to be in pretty good shape and runs really nice considering it hasn't been started in 12 years. You could have a real jewel there....;)
