Vacuum Pump 1989 SE

Hi,

My Vacume pump is not working properly. The pump runs off the belt. Are there any alternative electric variants (I think the S4 might be electric from what I have read on the forum)? Can you modify an SE to run off an electric vacume pump and what would you do with the belt and existing pump? I have been told that there is no chance of reconditioning the old pump as the item cannot be serviced. What would be the consensus of opinion?

Pumps can be re-conned by PNM, that's pretty pain free. They're hard to replace with an electric as the pulley also tensions the water pump belt.

In the US it is easy to get at NAPA auto parts stores, usually $100

NAPA part #64-1006 (64-1005 will work but requires modification)

I used the route indicated by Travis, works great. I just took the new pump and attached it to the existing pulley/ housing.

Out of interest, does anyone know if the Giugiaro turbos had a vacuum pump or did they just have a takeoff off the inlet manifold like NA cars??

Take-off from the manifold and they had a reservoir near one of the tanks
