So, I have Cancer.

Just as you start to celebrate your own good fortune and start fantasizing about a trip through Cambodia, events can be harshly brought back to perspective.

Having undergone successful eye surgery last week, new photos for passport renewal, looking forward to October, and best buddy school friend from the UK calls, terminal cancer, no guesses, terminal. He's the friend that drove me to look at the car when I bought it.

If he's able we're going to try to meet up in Bangkok end of October, or maybe I fly on to the UK when I get there, maybe Cambodia will have to wait. It's quite a blow I lost my best friend here late last year, I seem to be running out of friends, it's getting scary, and I admit to emotional pain, these are good guys similar age to me, I should be on top of the world with my new eye, but I'm not.

Sorry to hear Rog, but good news on the eye.

Second opinion later today. Fingers crossed, am trying to see if the glands resurfacing is really necessary.

My specialists seem to be divided. But with 2 of the 3 top Penile Cancer specialists in the UK I seem to have hit a rich vein of form (yes it's a joke).

My specialists boss wants to do more minimal surgery (remove the skin from the head down) rather than the skin and the head. He thinks that "We need to give you the chance for a normal life as much as possible".;

I have to say guys, I am so happy that they have given me this chance. If it doesn't work and they have to take the head or part of the head at a later date then fine. But I love my wife so much that I need to be able to be with her......to give her the life she expected...until they tell me they have to remove the Cancer.

What can I say. I'm pissed. I love my wife and kids so much and I just want to be able to carry on a normal life. This helps me.

Thanks guys. I really, really appreciate all your support. I have pledged today, to give £1000 to Cancer research should the operation be a sucess. I hope you can support me with this.

Love

Kimbers,

You know what man? 'Scuse the turn of phrase, but you've got balls of steel. Truly. I'm sure you've had and will have your moments, but you're an inspiring and tough SOB. The way you've put your priorities and focus in front and spread the positive vibe is amazing. I think you get TLF Dude of the Year Award.

I've been trying to compare your cancer with mine. I still have my penis intact....but it doesn't work any more(!). I do still manage to wake up every morning, and that's the truly important bit. On the whole, I think I'd rather have the prostate thing than what you are having to deal with.....as Matt says, you have steel spheroids. I hope all goes well and the minimalist approach works for you...and Rioja is a good choice, too!

Not saying anything, other than my thoughts are with you.

Jeez. I really don't remember posting those words :)

Technically speaking its a good thing as the surgery now won't be so invasive, thats why I was drinking, I was celebrating. Didn't come across as that though so I apologise.

John. I know what you mean. I know several people who had the prostate issue and it has effected them as well. I just want the op now I have my second opinion. Get it gone.

  • 3 weeks later...

Thinking of my Best mate today after just 3 weeks ago his father was diagnosed with Cancer. He died today in Hospital after complications. Just 3 weeks isn't much time to come to terms with your mortality.

RIP Les Roffey.

My turn in about 3 weeks.....to go into hospital that is.

*. Not implying that it's necessarily caused by drinking too much kimbers, sorry! Just one less risk factor in my decision. Go all out and just lopp it off, guarantee yourself life. With the advent of 3d gaming etc maybe they can insert electrodes in your brain and do a 3d reconstruct of the real thing, hook you and the mrs into the matrix!

I'm 26 and recently quit drinking for good for many reasons but reading about this was one of them - thanks mate, the decision to stop may well prevent me from ending up in that doctors chair later.

But of course in moderation it prevents other diseases

Good luck Kimbers.

Very sorry to hear about your friend.

Electrodes in the brain are a dangerous thing....they did just that with monkeys...then gave them two buttons; one stimulated the pleasure centres of the brain, and the other delivered food to the beast.

  • 2 weeks later...

So, wish me luck! Just had a call. Pre-med and Anaesthetic check tomorrow, plus, because Wendy's a nurse, MRSA check. Then, I am told, I can be called in anytime up to 2 weeks away but probably within a week.

TBH it can't come quick enough as I have been....bleeding, lets say, down there and I need to get it sorted before it goes Stage 2.
