Back in the booth for round 2

Round 2 consisted of more reface. came out of the booth a couple of days later for more sanding with 180, which has been done.  Am now sanding down with 240 in preperation for round 3 and primer.

WILL IT EVER END!!

Getting closer.  Car went back in the booth and is now sits resplendant in white primer.  Will have to leave it a few days now to harden off before I start the next round of sanding.

Finished the sanding and now she is.... PAINTED!

Then on to some flatting and polishing.  My paint guy tells me you know when the finish is truly flat by the  crispness of the reflections and by the fact you can read the number plate of a car in the yard...

Once that was done we moved on to the next step

Hi Tom,

Exhaust manifold isn't fitted yet, took rocker cover off but it was still fowling at the rear.  We ended up taking out the o/s engine mount donut and losened the n/s donut which allowed the engine to lean over. Gives lots of space for the body to go straight down on to the chassis.

I had a problem with the Bundy tube that goes over the "spring" in the rear wiper assembly.  I came to the conclusion that there must be an easier and more "flexible" solution to the Bundy tube.  I think I have found it 10mm, stainless steel,  flexible gas pipe!  It fits easily over the spring, the old end from the bundy tube will sleeve into the flexi pipe at the wheel box end,  and at the motor end, with a bit of fettling, the secureing nut will fit over the end of the flexi.  It comes in an ideal length, 800mm and as you can see from the photo below is very flexible whilst still being rigid.  And it only cost £12, half the price of a bundy tube.  I've done a trial fit and it's dead easy to install as well! 

I think we can call that a win.

Still here, still beavering away, lots to do. 

Engine bay is starting to come together, still things to hook up.  Air dam resting in place to work out where the fixing holes need drilling, then it can be painted.

When I got the car the only things that were connected were the coolant hoses and some electrics. Things like the vacuum hoses are a bit of a mystery, no idea where some of them go or how they should be routed.

Still, all part of the rich tapestry of a Lotus re-build.

Starting to look busier in the engine bay.  Pedal box in and pedals connected to relevant cables. Engine wiring loom laid in.  Next job is to make front brake lines.

 

Main power cable fitted along with the seatbelt strengthening plate. I will also be putting in an auxilliary earth cable (battery to commom earth on the pedal box) along there as well.

Steady progress.

Your battery cable looks much thicker than mine - or is it in an extra cover?  I'm thinking of using a heavier cable too.

No extra cover Pete, it's the original one that I took off the car. Not sure what amperage it is but it's thick, held in with 1/2" P clips  The Earth lead I'll be using will be 170 amps, that arrived today will be fitted this week.
