Make sure the engine is connected to the chassis with an earth strap, it could be bad connection between the body of the starter and negative, earth.

Can you revert back to points?, that would eliminate your electronic ignition. Another component known to give problems when hot is the coil.

Thought this might interest some. I lived near this pub and remember seeing the tv report on it's opening night. A F1 car was parked outside. What isn't mentioned is that the beertaps were in the style of a gearstick .. you selected your brew as if you were changing gear. Great fun pub while it lasted.

TR7 motors then, they need loading to give the relays time to operate else they go right past the stop. I upgraded my vacuum lights to electric, buying the TR7 setup, but eventually ditched those and went with MR2 motors because of this sensitivity.

Ensure the area's well ventilated when working with fibreglass otherwise it'll go to your head and you'll start singing .. oh, too late.

It lights when the sidelights are switched on. It's a lensed bulb, and the housing should just pull apart (from memory). It's a 3v bulb fed via a resistor in the passenger footwell. I replaced mine with an led and changed the resistor to suit, much better in my opinion.

Mine too, and it's shown on the wiring diag. Mine is mounted on the steering column.

I wouldn't recommend welding on the steering.

The recent warm spell encouraged me to alter the wiring on my fans: I wasn't happy turning the engine off, and hence fans, while it was still very hot. The water would not have been circulating and I preferred to have a system where the fans will continue to run after the ignition is switched off, controlled by the thermostat. So the fan relays are fed via a permanent 12v now. A lot of cars already do this. I also wanted the override switch I fitted to be active only while the ignition was 'on' to prevent it being accidentally left on and running the battery down. This meant another relay but worth it.

Does it have air con?

Try a different set of plugs, once they are wet they won't fire, sometimes even after they have apparently 'dried'.

I converted mine earlier this year, and I saw your original post during researching ideas, but I wasn't happy with having the big hole for the override knob on the top, where water normally collects and so would pour onto the motor, so I've fitted mine in a similar way but have the motors the right way up and the access hole underneath.

Re rear wheel bearings, I have a very distant memory of someone using/suggesting VW bearings, can't recall which model, but it wouldn't have been a recent one.
