Carb hose

Hi, i need to replace the short hose between the carbs and wondered if it has a part number at all? Im aware of Think Automotive for hoses but im placing an SJ order and thought i'd try there first. Many Thanks in advance

Just some regular fuel hose cut to measure is all I did. Nothing special afaik.

We have alcohol in the gas here so we use a barrier type of hose. The fuel injection type is more costly but will last longer too. Those are the right clamps too on there. They are FI hose clamps and don't mess up the hose as badly as a standard clamp.

 

I'm doing a bit of a restore on my Turbo and went all racy fancy  on my fuel hoses :-)

SJ do the braided hose but it's set up slightly differently...

Vern, on the fuel pump (left side of the pic) i used the econo fit clamp end. This is a kind of faux end that looks kinda like the real thing used on the rest of the carbs. The fuel pump doesn't have replaceable fittings so I was forced this way. The look good and cost is quite low, not as low as a jubilee clip but you have to pay for the racer pose :-)

Smart, is there any reason why they all seemed to be plumbed differently? Is there a best or worse way?

I too am looking at replacing fuel lines. Are the hoses from SJ'S really worth the extra cost? One section for my 85 turbo is about £34 plus postage when I can get a 3 metre length for less than £10 all in from Ebay.

Would you really want the cheapest hose available? Naturally there will be price mark up at SJ but not all hoses are created equal.

I always liked braided hose as well, but it is easy to then overlook hose issues as they cannot be seen. Other than aesthetics, what is the advantage of braided hose?

Was the braided not designed for use in motorsport when fuel pressures can be higher? The braid strengthens the hose.

You will find that with hoses and brake lines.

if you can make your own then you will save some £££.

Agreed. I've already bought plenty from SJ and am happy to do so when neccessary for quality or availability. I don't see anything wrong with buying non lotus specialist but still good quality parts when possible. Buying a fuel hose from a reputable maufacturer off Ebay doesn't seem like unneccessary penny pinching to me, just part of the fun of doing it yourself and that includes sourcing the parts at a good price and no compromise in quality. Some may not agree though

Nah - I'm with you chap

my dreaded red hose issue was fixed for about £15 and an hour with some good quality cunifer pipe and tools.

ultimately - it seems you can pay as much as you like for some parts - and it does seem the badge simply adds to the price sometimes which I find really annoying 

Exhaust studs are one example that will save you a huge amount

I'm using the SS hoses from Earl's and their fittings. It's very nice to look at, is easy to work with and looks cool. I figure this is a 1 time only replacement and with the way the hose is built, I can't see a failure.
