Driving licence requirements?

Neal H

Recommended Posts

I'm booked on the LoT track day at Hethel on 2nd June. It says you must bring "a full driving licence". Is the photo card sufficient or do they need a download of the counterpart bit as well? It's been a while since my last track day!

Thanks,

Neal.

I'm pretty sure on most trackdays I've been on the plastic part is ok, but I usually take the paper part and other docs I might need in a plastic wallet just in case.

You'll only need your photocard part - the paper part is no longer valid as said above.  However, its worth having a note of your National Insurance number with you.  Some places (incl for car/van hire) get twitchy about doing a points check and that's now available online on the DVLA site using the Driving License number AND the corresponding National Insurance number.

I only have my original paper licence and never had an issue just using that. Well, I call it a paper licence but actually it is physically more sellotape than paper.

I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.

In other words, you did it, so suffer the consequences on your own!

You don't!  They stay on forever. But they have an "award" date and they expire so whilst they are not "active" you can still see them.  Quite logical really for a system that was created probably pre the micro-processor!

FWIW, the only reason that the photo cards ‘expire’ is because of the photo. As people get older, they need new ID photos.

The licence rights themselves don’t expire until you’re 70.
