  1. Hobson's choice really... but having had 9 points on my licence at one stage I tend to be overly wary of speed cameras Why don't we stick with Plan A for today in the (probably vain) hope that one or two others from the South East decide to join us at South Mimms? If, come tonight, it's still just the three of us we can reconvene and decide then?
  2. Erm, more on the Haughley Bends (between Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds), another at Fen Ditton (Cambridge) and pretty much the whole 10 mile or so stretch between Cambridge and Huntingdon is covered by a rash of SPECS (average speed) cameras. Look forward to seeing you at Donny
  3. My hatred of the A12 stems from 15 years of commuting from Manningtree to Chelmsford Have driven the A507 on several occasions and you're quite right, it is a cracking road. But somehow I just don't think it would be the same without the EE leading us! Perhaps we'll save that for the next time when you join us Iain I'll still let you buy me a pint on Saturday though! Just back from collecting the Timeshare from Gerald. Has worked his usual magic and the car is once again tickety boo
  4. Couldn't agree more Toby! Have had my JDM Forester S/tb for 9 years during which time it's covered 200,000 miles. Other than normal consumables, a replacement battery and one clutch it has never let me down or cost me a bean. Completely unassuming, hugely practical and immense fun to drive. It's successor - a Forester STi - is due to arrive in a week or so
  5. Frankly, for Kimbers and I it would be much more direct if we just jumped straight on the A14 and headed east. But we tend to go via South Mimms in the hope that it will encourage a few more of the London/south eastern crowd to join us. Moreover, as Iain says the A14 is incredibly tedious (second only to the Essex section of the A12); it's also over-populated with scameras and invariably clogged up with artics heading to/from the east coast ports.
  6. Clicky But probably easier/quicker/cheaper to just use one of the R12 drop in replacements.
  7. So it's just the three of us then? C'mon people don't be shy!
  8. R12 - system capacity is 3lbs (1.4kg) R134a wasn't used in the Esprit until the mid 1990s... believe it was 1995?
  9. Hmmm... more like an hour's worth of valuable drinking time!
  10. That pretty much describes a Subaru Forester 2.5XT. Not the best looking car on the planet but ticks all the other boxes. Surprisingly quick out of the box and since it shares the WRX/STi platform & mechanicals can be readily tuned to 350 - 400hp (crank). Pop over to the US based community SubaruForester.com to learn more. The chances are that we'll bump into one another there too
  11. Happy Birthday Laura Hope you have a fantastic time in France
  12. If you're after a second opinion from someone who knows his Esprits why not try Steve Williams at Maidenhead? His website. Or, if you don't mind travelling further afield I'm sure Troy would be willing to help.
  13. If you've not done it before Boulogne 'old town' is worth a look. Some good restaurants up near the cathedral.
  14. Montreuil-sur-mer. Bit of a hike but well worth it - beautiful, historic town with some cracking restaurants. Go cross country and you'll have a great drive too
  15. Good man! Andy - food required James - ditto Steve - ditto Nifty - ditto Ralph - ditto Tobi + 1 (or +2) - ditto Paul- ditto Simon - ditto
  16. Might be! Would you believe I'm just back from a few and a bottle or two of ? Start the week as you mean to go on I say!
  17. Odds on certainty with Bibbo but Stoneleigh suggests that Mr K isn't necessarily a safe pair of hands any more
  18. If memory serves parked in the same spot last year too.
