  2. Chaps, whos had experiences with different oil filters...any ideas which to avoid, which are good, any changes in oil pressure, rattling on startup from drain back etc.... I ask as I was considering using a K&N oil filter for its super filtration..but then thought will that affect the oil pressure if its filtering to such a high level...ie impeed flow? Does the original Lotus filter have an anti drainback valve in it? There is a good price on genuine filters at the min from a chap Ive been speaking to.. ideas are welcome! Darren
  3. Possibly in the wrong section...but does anyone know of any issues that would arise in using a later GT3 right hand fuel tank in an earlier S4. I know the GT3 only had the filler neck on the near side, so the off side filler would be redundant on the S4. Other than that they look identicle. If I remember rightly, were the later tanks slightly smaller? Or was that the V8's......Would there be any issues with filling both tanks from the one side.. obviously its done on the GT3 this way but is it a pain in the bumbum with air blocks etc? I ask as my tanks are out at the moment..the nearside is shot blasted, in perfec condition and currently being repainted and sealed etc to ensure it lasts longer..but the offside was pinholed underneath...so its either repair or replace..depending on cost. Im not going down the road of stainless at the min unless someone has one very very cheap! cheers chaps! Darren
  4. There was no other securing cable tie on mine when I replaced them. Attached a thin rope to one end and pulled them straight out...attach the rope to the new one and pull it through with the rope! Simples!
  5. Chaps, just read this post.. Ive been looking at the rose joints available on ebay and wondering whether the quality is up to the job. Has anyone got any long term experience with these items? Obviously a sloppy gearchange is not wanted! Also, has anyone changed to a clevis joint instead of a rose joint? Darren
  6. Well I had the same sound on my S4 when I bought it and immediately noticed a tappity tap but rather loud. As the car had been off the road for a few years I but it down to the very badly rotten exhaust rasping, even though it did sound like top end tappet rattle. As the restoration got to the engine out stage a few weeks back, a day or so later the manifold came off and low and behold..... a hole. right by the mounting flange on number two. It had corroded badly in this area leaving a pinhole. So I was half right, it was the badly corroded exhaust system, albeit the manifold and it was no doubt the sound of the engine doin what it does inside that I could hear! So its been shot blasted and is currently off to a very good old chap who deals with these things... Darren
  7. Chaps, I just fitted my new rear crank seal this evening without any issues. I fitted the seal to the housing at the weekend with a bit of rtv sealant around its outer edge, measuring the 2mm gap at the rear as per the manual! Then left it to set in place so that today I oiled up the lip and crank and fitted it without the risk of it moving from its position in the housing. New button head bolts from my local nut n bolt suppliers for £2 and a job well done! Well, touch wood when the engine id back together and all its ok! Darren
  8. Glad youve got the chance to tackle the mess! Without going back outside to look...as Ive just come in from this evenings workings....the top one goes to the n/s cooler. But it doesnt matter which way round the oil flows finally..so if you happen to take them both off, then dont worry about which way round you put them back on! Regards Darren
  9. Well I picked up my water pump repair kit yesterday from Lotusbits..havent had chance to look through it yet, thats next weekends job but with regards to a few things...I bodged together a similar pulling type tool to get the bottom pully off...but it ended up cracking as it was proper stuck on! Not the end of the world but still should get another one in a week or so when they get stock in. Also, my pump had no gasket on it either. Im just going to use an RTV to seal it on. I am, however, changing the front crank seal..well infact all seals while Im at it.But I guess thats easier for me as my engine is out of the car! Good tips though on the rebuild of the pump...just write down each measurement take some pics and the reassemblyshould go well! Darren
  10. Most definately for tea and pig butty here..and my plus one! I think Ill be living in Leamington by the time this comes around so a nice short trip for me that morning...or have I just doomed things by saying that :S Darren

So, as you normally book this along with getting your ticket and car pass, can we sort this out too or should I be contacting them directly this time and explaiining Ill be comming with da boys this time Darren
  12. If the list keeps expanding and everyone turns up its gonna be the most Esprits Ill have seen in one place since I was a wee nipper at school dreaming of the day Id own one!
  13. Ok I took everything apart last year and Ive forgotten one simple thing...where do the longest of the flexi brake hoses go. Is it the front or the rear or the middle section... :s They seem far too long to me to go on the front... Darren
  14. Ive fitted yellowstuff on my S4, litterally tonight..although I cant coment on what theylll be like as it wont be turning a wheel for another month or two Darren
  15. Has anyone got or know of the wherabouts of a rear ABS sensor for my 1995 S4. Im not wanting to mail order just that sensor from the usual sources as by the time you add the postage and VAT I think its a silly price. regards Darren
  16. Havent been on all week but plus one myself too..either the old man or the missus :s PS anyone know of or have a spare rear ABS sensor knocking around? I begrudge having to mail order one...as I dont need anything else at the mo and I think 50quid is a bit tops! 1. Officer Dibble + 1 2. Oneshot + 1 3. Dodgy 4. Nijeninja 5. Dodge1979 + 1 6. Martynv 7. Mr Oogie Boogie 8. Alex --GT3-- 9. bibs + 1 10. sparky 11. PFD +1 12. fsrowsell 13. Alan + 1 (probably in Tesla if thats OK)
  17. Ah good stuff!! well, as Ive only been on here a few months Im yet to learn all! Im 100%sure my resto will be finished by May time so Im looking forward to going again this year.Im definately game for a plus one ticket!and of course the little spin around the track...apparantly it was a limit of 70mph last year...but at 130mph the pace car backed down just worth it for the photo really..a little memrobilia! Would be nice to see you all before of course..where do I sign up Darren
  18. Sounds good, I contacted the organiser of a local lotus club that Ive attended before to enquire also. Theyre going to look into it. How do I go about getting my name down! Obviously Ive got the form already for an individual entry, but would be much nicer as a group. To be honest I didnt realise there was a specific Esprit owners club...where abouts are you based? Im just outside of Coventry myself, is this too far :s regards Darren
  19. Does anyone know of a Lotus club display going to the supercar sunday in june? I went last year with my porker, but there was not enough Lotus representation for my liking! Now Ive got an Esprit Id like to do my part and be in the right section...Ive recieved my individual display invite already, but I dont want to be lost on the car park by the museum this year amongst all the randoms! Any ideas? Darren
  20. Yes, mine too are being replaced with stainless steel pipe...all four to come out when the engine comes out hopefully this month...maybe early next month one of the chargecooler ones has started leaking so all will be changed... Dave, hows yous now the geometry is done? last time we spoke it was still at the workshop having the adjustments. Darren
  21. My two peneth worth..slave cylinders have always been a bugger to me. Its already been mentioned that seal kits are pointless really, the reason being that we are talking about a cylinder bore that is ten plus years old..or even far greater and as such any new seal wont seal fully as the cylinder bore will be worn..no matter how low mileage of lack of use etc...its just a fact. Recon ones arent worth bothering with either...again new seals in a worn bore. Always fit new..at the end of the day theyre not that expensive and have a guarentee! On a note of bleeding....I found the same problems with my T-series engined vittesse....the only way to bleed it properly was the clamp the slave cylinder fully closed so it could not move at all...then let the fluid gravity fill first..then proceed with the same method as brakes...assistant required or one of those pressure bleeders....although Ive found sometimes they can be too harsh and actually blow the new seals...so I use an assistant...cheers Dad this was the only way to make sure no air gets in the system.... Darren
  22. Top stuff....thanks for the clarification..Id hate to be buying the wrong ones :s
  23. Travis, just to confirm, as Im looking to change my injectors also, the link you previously gave for the primary's sends you onto a bosch injector, but you state its a good lucus one for replacing the bosch?..is that just a typo? hmm having just read the linked page again, it says at the top its a bosch d1680 then in the descriptive text it says its a lucas item! :s darren
