  1. RIP one of the great drivers, always made time for the fans and stopped to have a few words and sign autographs.
  2. What should have been a reliable source. We told them which pistons we had, and assumed we had been sold something to match. Needless to say i dont think i have any comeback on them. We have also tried one local machine shop to hone them to match. And they are still out by miles. No im not going back as they already took a lump out of my block. Are we wasting our time and money trying to get these machined? Is this much more complcated to do than i am apreciating?
  3. Assuming I cant return them. I dont think I have this option as I have had them 12 months. The variance is within the same cylinder liner, they are tapered and oval. Can machining cope with just removing a few microns where needed?
  4. We have mahle a pistons, westwood iron liners which were 'meant' to match. Measuring with an oxford dial bore gauge in microns. Current clearances anywhere from 80 to 35, and should be 110(?). Getting consistent readings so I dont think its our measuring. Also verified with a feeler guage. Is this fixable by a good machine shop? Or do we cut our loses and start again with new liners? Cant return the liners as we put them in before finding out the pistons didnt fit.

  6. So to cut a long story short, we have ended up with liners which do not have the correct clearances. Does anyone know a good local machine shop which would be able to hone/bore the liners to match our pistons? Norwich area.
  7. Sounds like a familiar tale. The kitchen will be finished after the esprit here too.
  8. Booked for the whole weekend. Fingers crossed for good weather. With any luck it may be the first outing for the esprit after its restoration.
  9. We didnt see it all in a full day last time we went.
  10. Sounds like youv'e got the Lotus bug to me..... Welcome to the club.
  11. There was me thinking we were the only ones to have an esprit where everywhere you look the previous owner/local garage had bodged something. Keep up the good work Barry.
  12. What not even in stainless steel? Cheapskate.
  13. Always good to see another lotus convert, welcome.
  14. The excel Sounds like an interesting project. Look forward to seeing it when its up and running.
  15. Hi and welcome, you will find lots of info and helpful knowledge people on here so you are in the right place. You are right that prices seem to be rising quickly, but its worth taking the time to find the right car, or things can get expensive to fix. Well worth the wait to get a lotus they definitely are addictive.
  16. I am sure I could sort out a turnip field in norfolk and a burger van for £50. On a more helpful note, expand the stand at the duxford show on the 30th april?
  17. Martyn - Esprit SE Chris (Esprit22) - Esprit Turbo ChrisJ - Excel SE or Turbo Esprit - hopefully not both like last year Chipp-M100S2 Nr2k - s1 elise Really enjoyed this event last year.
  18. Just had to replace all of ours, the ends were beyond repair. No fixings other than the rubber grommets. Still got a problem with a hole in the vacuum pipe, has anybody been able to source a replacement? Or repair this? Glad we took the body off in the end as we were able to treat the areas of the chassis which were starting to rust.
  19. I am sure that the team at hangar 111 will soon get it sorted for you. I am not sure about the s2 but ours will flatten the battery if it stands for more than about 10 days, the trickle charger is your friend.
  20. 1705 originally and still monaco white , black interior, 1984 no sunroof lc turbo

    ARC Transport

Should look better still once the holes the po drilled in the tailgate are repaired and we get it back from the body shop.

Another recommendation for Arek at arc. Excellent service and reasonable prices.
  23. Eventually got ours off after an hour with a hot air gun and gentle tapping with a rubber mallet. sure there must be a better way though.
  24. Assuming it is the battery and you get it started, then if it runs like a dog you will need to recalibrate by turn ignition on but dont start. then pump accelerator pedal slowly up and down 12 times. turn ignition off then on again and start. all should then be fine. Most probably a flat battery from what you describe.
  25. Love the elise in yellow. Have fun with it.
