Resurrection and development of V8 Project GT1

Recommended Posts

Slow progress given other priorities.

Removed hub/spindle adaptors in readiness for drive shaft removal and extraction of the engine and gearbox.  The poor chassis will have to roll around on space-savers.

That cambelt is the stuff of garages nightmares lol,   So strange that folks fear the mighty lotus V8 lol.

Fantastic work Mike and so pleased you are working through it so quickly,  making up for lost time i presume lol.

Great thread and awesome car as always look forward to the updates

Out with the gearshift mechanism and cables - won't be needing those.

If anyone needs a late V8 gearchanger mechanism complete with associated hardware, please send me a PM.

Plenty of folks on here have considered building one of those Marc,  spare bodyshell, bit of glasswork, lots of expanding foam and an outboard motor, probably the cheapist way of been Bond lol .

Mike, looking at the pics of your v8,  is the door beam this way on the later esprits or did you have these built ?

Just more weight saving - the standard door beams were machined and polished.

The race car uses the same door beams but with a more extreme weight saving due to the side protection from the roll cage.

I would consider removing the window frame centre piece that connects to the beam. I recall a woman being speared by it an accident (not in a lotus). Bit gruesome but best be safe.

Roland, that is part of what permits alignment of the window for fit to the door aperture when closed, is it not?

Agree entirely but given it’s a race car I would Make the modification. It would be deadly if It wasn’t contained by the door card in a side impact.

Working on the turbo positioning for the fabrication of the tubular manifolds.  I'll be needing a custom cross-member anyway for the transmission clearance.  Relocation of the header tank was going to be necessary in order to get the best placement.

The fabricated chargecooler will allow for a perfect alignment with the motorsport plenums that will be fitted.IMG_1427.thumb.JPG.f48f2e286f2a48c8bc3fd55a4a75ff4e.JPGIMG_1428.thumb.JPG.780cf87606d520c55f59b94eef1b1d5d.JPG

Thanks
