Resurrection and development of V8 Project GT1

Prototype bracket for the transmission oil cooler pump.  You`ve got to love working with cardboard....

The drain plug can be seen down on the left hand side under the output shaft tripod cv flange.  The oil filler point is used for the return.

With the engine running now, it`s time to plumb-in the fire extinquisher. There are two settings, road and track.

- Road: with both power isolation and extinguisher triggered only from internal cabin buttons

- Track: triggering possible from both internal and external buttons

There are extinguisher nozzles for cabin footwell and engine compartment

Adjustable wastegate capsules arrived.  Fitting grey springs (1.0 - 1.4 bar)

The adaptor for the gearbox drain arrived today and fits perfectly.  Looking forward to the arrival of the pump bracket so that I can finalise that part of the installation.

Finally able to install the wastegate actuators, due to needing a longer turnbuckle. 

Running with a higher preload due to the stronger springs and piston type actuator.

Now waiting on exhaust wrap for then final part of heat management in the engine compartment for this stage.

This will all be replaced in any case when the tubular manifolds arrives and I switch across to the BorgWarner EFR 6758s.

Decision time for the project on whether or not to go for the BPR #22 GT1 optic or not...

This was one of the original project objectives, but as the car may be sold next year it`s time to decide if that is warranted.  The decal set is all prepared, so it is extremely tempting to go that way.

Leave them off then give the new owner the option of you putting them on if he wishes

Finally got around to fitting the carbon rear deck. Only weights just over 3Kg so could be accomplished alone.

 

The integral central rod allows for increasing the angle of opening.

Removal of the cast rear uprights in preparation for the arrival and installation of the CNC versions.

Slowly finishing off open topics.   Collected the transmission oil cooler pump bracket and it`s a perfect fit.

Plumbed-in with the pump and cooler circuit between the drain and fill points.

Here are my CNC rear uprights prepared by Aira Technology in the UK. As a special favour to me, Alex arranged for black anodising to match the chassis.

Can`t wait to get these fitted.

Finally got all of the hardware necessary to progress with ride height and basic geo.  Still in the fitting stage, but starting to get there.   Hoping that I can manage a proper testing session this month.

The car is finally back on the ground for the first time in months.  I`m very satisfied with the result so far.  I expect to be able to drop the front of the car another cm and still have sufficient obstacle clearance.

Finally warm enough to get out in the workshop and crack-on. Driveshafts outer cv and rear brakes installed. Handbrake held the rear brakes for torquing the nut to 270Nm.

The inner cv`s will wait until the clutch throwout is set-up, as it easier to feel the clutch releasing without the drag of the new brakes.

Busy weekend planned to finish off some remaining jobs.  Exciting times with a proper test planning before the end of this month.

Quick word of thanks here for Mike, as I've taken a cue from this project and found the forward locating of my electric water pump to be ideal for the S2, at least in offering it up!
