Resurrection and development of V8 Project GT1

Recommended Posts

Hi Thomas,

Yes, the cable is actually a firm push fit in the machined retainer but a safety wire will be a lasting backup.

Cheers,

Mike S

Nice to see all the progress Mike. I guess completion has slipped back quite a lot from first estimate, how long before it’s all done you think?

lovely work BTW.

Trevor.

I'll get around to it at some point.

Hi Trevor,

Sadly yes.  It has taken a lot longer to sort all of the bespoke parts (flywheel, clutch slave, driveshafts, gearshift etc etc).  I have also been holding back as I will install the CNC rear uprights before mating the body.

I would expect to have the body back on and ready for the first engine start in August.

There will be some programming/tuning for the Shift ECU to get the ignition cut and downshift blip just right, but that should not take so long.

Cheers,

Mike S

Mike,

Very few projects run to schedule and in your case I’m not surprised given the attention it’s getting, fabulous work. Finding time for an oil change runs over schedule in my house 🙂

Slave cylinder installed with calculated push-fit spacer machined by Andrä.

The slave has 12mm stroke and a max. movement on the spring of 4mm.  Will use the provision on the clutch pedal to limit the pedal movement.

Small interior stuff.   Panel for the gear position indicator, which will also house the 52mm oil pressure guage.  The rest of the engine info is already configured on the Motec ADL.

Mike, I was wondering what type of clutch slave cylinder that was so after a bit of searching it's a Concentric Slave Cylinder, yes?

https://youtu.be/0L-6CU-C51Q

I always thought the existing method of the Esprit's clutch fork to be a bit janky. Apart from weight saving are there any other benefits such as better feel, speed etc? Probably a bit of an overkill mod to a 'normal' Esprit though.

Signature not working...

Yes. It`s the most direct way of acting on a push type clutch.  Engagement is a smooth as it can.

I would not recommend with kind of thing on a regular Esprit.  They are not particularly cheap and there would be a fair amount of bespoke work to get it installed and working correctly.

More interior preparation.   The new gearshift is off-centre and closer to the steering wheel.

The space on the panel may be used to mount the EWP150 fan controller or some other switchgear.

Hi Dave,

I use a Dremel high speed cutting disc for the carbon sheet.

Cheers,

Mike S

Dremel grinding tools for any profiling and good quality drills for the holes.  You just need to drill slowly/steadily.
