Thats correct, it would be difficult to get the springs right first time. Also, on the pre-85 the lower link twists as it goes up and down as its located front-rear by the ARB. So the lower shock

So it's looking like nothing will ever come of this? What a tragedy! I have a 1978 Esprit S2 that needs a suspension overhaul and I would have snapped up a Bilstein/Eibach setup in a second.

My S1 is still at the factory ready for them to start the development program on it if they get the go ahead.

I have talked to Brian Angus at the factory today and he assures me that he is still pushing to make this a reality.

I have a '78 esprit S2 that is sagging badly toward the rear drivers side (of course). I rebuilt the whole car 10 years ago - including springs and Spax shocks.

I would much rather buy an excellent new set like this rather than the original springs that only last a few years before sagging again.

BTW:

I have never looked at this great website before since it's content is "hidden" from casual google searches and needs you to register to see anything. You can't see anything on this site if you just google Lotus or esprit (unlike say, Roadfly forums). I think alot more people like me would be interested if this were rectified.

If it may help things along, I will ultimately be purchasing a minimum of two sets of springs/dampers, possibly three. I only counted myself once on the list because I am promising to buy one set (for blue S1) immediately upon their availability; A year or two or few later I would buy another set for my white S1. If I have a third S1 when they are available . . .

I won't be buying any dampers/springs for any S1 except for what Lotus offers. If Lotus are all about handling, and the factory is offering to do the kind of development/testing at the Lotus test track to give us proper new suspension, I see it as there being no other choice! What's the point otherwise?!?

Having now spent 2 glorious visits at the Lotus factory this year, driving some of the current range of vehicles and taking mine around the test track, I would also like to add my name to the list for a new set up for my S3 N/A 1982 car. There knowledge and expertise is incredibly good value.

You can add my name to the list as well if it helps - although I think my car handles fantastic already.

I do however think that Lotus should think beyond financial costings when it comes to 'G' esprits - afterall what could be a better advertisement for them than having these iconic cars driving our streets and turning heads ?!! And wasn't this the car that saved Lotus in the late 70s early 80's??

Surely that should be included in the financial equation !

I'll take one. I've already got a Claudius rear suspension, although not installed. I'd like to know if anyone else has ever installed one of these and if they are an improvement.

But, I'd also buy a Lotus designed kit.

U can add me I would very much like to purchase such a kit as I am trying to restore my S1 and would need the shocks, springs, dampers in the near future (would also save me the cost of having a set of bilstien's specially desinged for my lotus, which I was planning soon)

Due to the lack of numbers and costs of development for the new Bilstein/Eibach suspension upgrade Lotus cannot realistically carry on the development of this upgrade unless there are significant numbers of people interested in purchasing. If only 10/20 people wish to follow this route then Lotus will lose a significant amount of money on the project which, as nice as they are, they can't justify. If 75+ people were interested, there's a lot more chance of us getting this off the ground.

Please post below if you would purchase this suspension if it were available. It's not a contract to buy, but we do need a commitment to numbers so a good case can be made to Lotus to make this an economically good idea for them.

Yes, I would buy a better suspension for my 1978 Esprit S2 but it depends on the price.
