Ohhhh, WOW, number DOM 002, that really is a find.

Just don't get carried away and look too keen otherwise the seller is going to ask ridiculous money for it.

Hilly

Or you're from the neighbourhood clean up commitee so when would they like you to take it away....

Anyone else notice a "USAndretti42" looking at this thread? hasn't the Andretti family got #1?

Edit: Just noticed he is a Mod

The Andretti family indeed did have a JPS Esprit. When I got my Andretti Racing number plate surround Michael Andretti said that they used to have one and it was a "cool car." According to the JPS Register site, Mario Andretti was originally loaned number 002 car as 001 wasn't ready. It was re-badged as 001 while he had it. He eventually received the real 001 and 002 was given its correct number.

I took the user name USAndretti42 because it's a US car, a commemorative edition to celebrate Mario's championship and it's number 42 in the series. I'm nothing to do with the Andrettis.

Hi Trevor

Thanks for the great information, I wonder were the Andretti car is now? it still shows up as being in the families possesion on the register site by Micheal said "they used to have one" we will probably never know, maybe in a private collection? Anyway I am going to continue to try and aquire UK #2 and will let you all know how I get on, if its too much of a resto job for me I will pass it on to someone who can do it justice.

Its a sad site to see it like this for sure, especialy as everything points to it being in good cosmetic condition when it was dumped, it probably suffered a mechanical issue and just never got repaired, my geuss is that its been there 10 years and the DVLA site says last taxed in 1996 so that stacks up.

I tell you what though, if I do get it, it will be a bugger to move after being sat for 10 years!

Tread carefully Barry - the writer in me senses a tragedy here. Maybe the son parked the car at his parent's house before going off somewhere and never coming back (soldier maybe?).

Seems more likely than any Lotus owner letting a 'special' car fall apart like that - and would explain the old woman's reluctance to discuss it...

You'll find out more when you do her windows, but let the story unravel in its own time.

The owner lives in the next street to me.................................................and I made it clear that I would not do the windows without speaking to her son as I didnt want to be seen to be a dodgy window salesman making money out of an old lady.

And THAT'S why I didn't get a publishing deal...

I think I need some serious therapy I was looking at that thinking oooh that looks a fun restoration project. But I know of a specialy little car sitting in a barn I would like to get my hands on. When I have some cash I am gonna go see the owner and try to get him to part with it.

Oh and nope I'm telling no one what it is or where it is but it is an Esprit. :ice:

why why why is the car left like this, well my 88 will be pretty much finished this year, and me next one i would like to be a JPS, so if you don`t buy it and you have no one on your list to pass on the details to. Please pass them on to me and i will purchase the car (subject to the owner wanting to sell) and rebuild it to a concours atandard (if it`s costs 20k then fine). Please let me know

Sounds like a "dodgy insurance job" to me.... ;)

LOL - no, far from it. If it was, mentioning it here would be a bit daft :P

No, it was a joint venture with a mate, and we sort of fell out over it.

Wasn't this Mario's car? Doesn't have any JPS decals though. Or was this the car loaned to him by Lotus for publicity and he had his own JPS?

Hi

The JPS 001 is owned by someone in Atlanta. He brought it to the Rolex 250 race in Birmingham AL, USA two years ago and to LOG24 also held in Birmingham, AL. Had a note on the dash from Mario saying he was glad the car was in the hands of a good owner and thanks for keeping it in the Lotus family. I have pictures of it somewhere.

I will see if I can find more info.
