If I remember correctly Clarkson said when the Elise was launched "If it's a success I'll eat my shoes" good job he's a motoring expert eh

When he reviewed the 340R in 2000, Clarkson had the good grace to confess his previous comment and added he had enjoyed eating his Docksiders. I still have a copy of The Sunday Times article in my 340R folder.

Whilst I am no Clarkson fan, most journalists and probably half the Lotus factory thought the Elise was doomed to failure.
