Very short term insurance for a 23 year old?

Anyone ever had one of their children insured on an Esprit for say a day? One of my sons is 23, been driving for 4 years, clean license and in full time employment. For better or worse have given him the OK to get insured for a day on my S4. Actually am rather looking forward to him, hopefully, enjoying it as much as I do (despite the risks)! :)

Any recommendations for an insurance company that does this? (UK)

would be very interested in how you get on.

I think you'll need to add him to your insurance. I seem to recall that only one lot of insurance can be applied to a car. I've added my nephew to my my car for a few days whilst his was being repaired (not a Lotus though) :)

Assuming he already has his own insurance on his own car then it depends how brave and trusting you are.

With most companies he can add driving other cars benefit to his own insurance (if he doesn't already have it on the policy). This legally entitles him to drive any car with the owners permission.

The down side is that only gives traffic act cover, so while damage to others is covered, your pride and joy isn't. So any damage to your car is down to him (or you!). The upside is that it's his insurance, so any incident does not affect your own insurance.

Are you feeling lucky? 😁

@RobinB5Forget about your insurance or his for now, as you will be charged admin fees, premiums etc for this that way.

There are specialist short term insurers out there. I've used "Dayinsure" for my daughter a couple of times, and there are several other providers out there if you do a quick google on "temporary car insurance".  (Others include Goshorty, Veygo, insuredaily, etc etc etc....

Personally, never had a single issue with Dayinsure when using them on 3 separate occasions for my daughter, and twice for me when picking up a car I had bought online.

I think your problem is going to the car and your sons age. However, the cars age may help as it might be seen as a "classic".  Go to the DayInsure website and put in all the details for an almost instant quote. At least that will give you a ball park.

Remember, it will be your son being insured on your car, so just like he had his own proper insurance, the difference is you are paying for a day, 2 days, 3 days etc instead of a year, so will it be dearer on a cost per day basis.

I came into this world screaming and covered in someone elses blood. I'll probably leave it in the same way.

The small print.

My comments and observations are my own, invariably "tongue in cheek", and definitely, sarcastic in nature. Therefore, do not take my advice, suggestions, observations or posts seriously or personally and remember if you do, do anything, that I may have suggested, then you have done this based solely on your own decision to do so and therefore you acknowledge responsibility and accountability (I know, in this modern world these are the hardest things for you to accept) for your actions and indemnify me of any influence, responsibility, accountability, or liability, in what you have done. In other words, you did it, so suffer the consequences on your own!

As much as I trust him, no way would it be 3rd party, fire and theft!

Perfect, thanks @C8RKH! Will report back on if they quoted him and if so, how much.

I have used a couple of times for odd days to pick up a car/or take for MOT - for myself though.
